Suggestions for Portable Speakers !!

I want to buy portable speakers to plug with my Laptop and MP3 players.

I need these for whenever I'm going outstation. Budget around 2k.

Already did a research on following:

i) Altec Lansing Orbit IM237
ii) X-Mini Max II

But no idea how good these are :S
 
There is an altec lansing 2 speaker set which costs less then 1K i thing. I have it (dont know name, modem number) and it works fine. They are USB powered

But as I stated in OP, that I need to plug it with the mp3 player also, So does it has any Audio in through 3.5mm jack??
 
^^ Yes yes very much. The model is altec lansing bx 200 two speaker set.

it is powered by USB and has a 3.5mm jack which can be plugged in the headphone jack of laptop etc

If you want to use it separately, get a USB wall plug which accepts USB and connect the same to mains and connect the 3.5mm jack to MP3 player.
 
^^ yes this is the one. Sound quality is decent enough and it has a volume leveller on it also so when you increase volume from speaker and PC you can get louder sound.

But mind you dont expect dolby type sound, they are just decent for movie watching and casual music listening. Dont expect much thump as there is no woofer.

But there is a variant of this which has same 2 speaker + a subwoofer and that sells for more than 1K. Not sure if that subwoofer is helpful or not.
 
^^ I think IM237 is better than those, however only drawbacks I see, are it's mono not stereo, and uses 3xAAA batteries for power :(
