Hi everybody,

I am nearing the end of my new rig build.:ohyeah:
Am looking at purchasing a graphics card from the US sometime before the end of the first week of January.

Mr primary requirements in no specific order
1. Should be HDCP compliant since this card will be used in an HTPC.
2. Should not get outdated fast.
3. Should be able to play some strategy games like lastest version of Age of empires, BF, etc comfortably
4. Will be connecting to a 40inch LCD tv.
5. Budget around 300 dollars. Can go higher if needed but don't want to take a 8800 card for the DX10 capability since I really don't think I will be using this as a gaming card.
6. Will be purchasing online from Newegg(IF there is any better then suggestions are welcome)

My PSU is an Antec SP 500watt

I will not be overclocking and if additional paste, fans are needed then pls let me know so that I can club the order.

Thanks :-)

XFX 7950GT 512 MB ... should be just under 300 usd's ..

Also , about the oc part .. do oc .. u've got a good enough PSU and the card can surely do 600/1600 ..

Thanks deathvirus_me.

I was veering towards a 7950GX2 after looking at the prices.

Can anybody give me a reason to look at something else? Will a 88XX card really add something to my HTPC that I am missing with the 7950?

I am looking at spending more on the RAM instead of the graphics card. Something like 4 sticks of 1 GB 800 mhz. Am I missing the point here by investing more in RAM than a Graphics card in an HTPC???

I am really in need of some advice here folks. I don't want to skimp right now. Have learnt this one thing. Its better to spend a lil extra than regret later.

Since its in a HTPC get the 7950 GT from XFX. Its passivesly cooled as well, so no noise. Its just at the 300$ mark. Dont go for GX2, you might as well get the 8800 GTS for less money. The 7950 GT will fit ur needs just about perfectly. Though if u intend to keep the card for a long time, the 8800 will be much more future proof as its DX 10, and offers much better performance as well. One more advantage is that it has better video decoding so lower cpu utilization. As for the RAM, right now 2 GB is the sweetspot. Unless ur doing some heavy duty work, theres no need for more at this point. 2 GB is fine
