2 Asus A8NE Motherboard 1 6100
3 512 MB X 2 Nos. TwinMos DDR RAM 400 Mhz 1 4200
4 Samsung 1.44 MB FDD - Black 1 300
5 80 GB SATA - Seagate 1 3025
5 XFX PCI Card 6200 Turbo Cache with 64 MB RAM 1 3200
6 Sony DVD Writer - OEM Pack 1 3200
7 17" Veiwsonic TFT Monitor 1 15600
8 Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle - Black 1 2150
9 I-Ball Black Cabinet with 24 Pin SMPS 1 1800
45900

Well, I have decided these. This is not a gaming rig. But I opted for a 6200 coz I dont want an onboard graphics solution.

And the only query as of now is this iball cabby + PSU. I dont care much abt cabby. My mom is not going to oc this :P But the iball SMPS, is it ok??

ya it should run fine on the iball smps. i guess its 300 or 400w. should work fine on 300 also. otherwise just tell them to give u a vip 300 or 350w smps will charge around 200 -500rs more i guess.

oh.... and another thing.,

The Sony OEM DVD Writer is a Q30A. But the boxed version is DRU 810(rebadged 1640).

Will the OEM and the boxed version be the same drive technically??

And the PSU is a 300 Watts or something like that.

Just mentioning what I told you on chat.

The Sony Q30A is a rebadged Liteon DHW-1635S . So no, its not the same as the DRU-810A / BenQ DW 1640.

Also, a good PSU is not just for OC'ing. Most rigs these days use quite a bit of power even at stock settings :)

You did mention that Powersafe/VIP isnt available in your area. Its not available in Chennai too. You could ask their head office to courier one to you.

Do yu plan to OC this rig ? otherwise save some cost and get the Asus nforce 6150 based system. Not only will be the mobo be cheaper but also you will save money from the gfx card.

Yes Nikhil. Get the A8N-VM CSM which would cost u abt 5~5.2K. Runs on the 6150/430 chipset combo. If not get the A8N-Vm which is available for 4.8K - 6100/410 chipset and put the money that ur planning to spend on the G.Card in getting a better PSU and cabbie. get the Antec SLK 1650B which comes with a 350W PSU. Should cost u around 4K. Much better than other options.

And where are u getting the TwinMOS for 4.2K ?? It costs 4.7~4.8K everywhere. Get the DW1640. Why pay more for a previous gen burner ?

Twinmos was max 4100 for 2x512MB in Mumbai @ all lammy shops.
Rates for Twinmos single 512MB vary as follows 1950/2000/2050 @ Mumbai.

Also the Antec SLK 1650B is not worth wasting 4K on it.
Dont waste money there.
Get the Powersafe 400W 24pin and a nice cabby [whatever u get in banglore]

Still 3.3K is higher than.

1600 for PS 400W + 700-800Rs cabby.

Let Nikhil decided how much he wants , leaving the decision in his hands
after all its his money not mine.

Id say stick with the I-Ball cabbi + psu, should cause no problems at all. :).

As for the other things, Good Choice :ohyeah:

Get atleast a 400 Watts PSU.

came across this article recently.... article dated 21 October 2005

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27129

JUST WHEN the company was ready for reviews and when it actually shipped its long awaited C51, Geforce 6150 and 6100 motherboards it discovered some serious flaws and had to get all the boards back.

We learned about it from a manufacturer that had to withdraw all of its boards as it might cause very unhappy users. The first flaw was Nvidia firewall related, as today boards usually have two LAN ports.

Second flaw was more serious as some chaps claim to have experienced data corruption with this chipset.

Thanks Eazy... I read abt that.

That is why I dont want a 6150 mobo right now. This rig is not going to be oc'ed. And somehow, I dont like onboard graphics. A mental block :P MAkes no sense, I know. But still....

And yeah DJ, my mom is going to use this PC. Internet, Word, PPT, etc... that is all. And watching some videos ocassionally.

@Freaky --- I also dont want the Sony OEM drive. I spoke to the dealer after chatting with Eddy and he told me that the Q30a is a LiteOn and not a Benq 1640. So, I told the dealer that I want a BenQ only.

Abt the PSU.... All of you are suggesting against this. But I dont think there will be any quality problems with this. And I am not going to be ocing this rig, not adding more HDDs(80GB is waaaay too muich for my mom :P ) or adding more optical drive,s or adding a more powerful graphics card.

So, the 350Watts should be enough.

The problem is, we need this rig in a hurry and my dad has no patience to wait Powersafe or VIP which are not available right now. And even if it is, I cannot go and get it right now. It will have to wait abt 2 wekks till I can walk.

So, I have decided to go for iball cabby + PSU. And the dealer has assured me that if anything goes wrong with the PSU, he will replace all damaged components for me.

And spending 3K for a cabby is out of the question. This proccy will be on stock all the time. It cannot generate too much heat to warrant a 3K cabby.

LOL you dont eed a 3k cabby to maintain a good airflow, buy a cabby which is spacious and has atleast 2 exhaust fan grilles. Also a grile on the side panel would be desirable in case you want to mount a 120mm fan on the sidepanel in future. Look a lil and you will get nice cheap cabbys for under 1.5k.

if that is the case then trust me go in for a sempron 2500+ "E6" cpu for about Rs.2.6K and a cheap socket 754 m/b (Rs. 3K approx).
for the purpose and the s/w that ur mummy is going to use you will find absolutely no difference in performance between this cpu and the 3000+ socket 939 version. and you might save about 5~6K in the bargain.
(see my signature....)
and if you think that socket 939 will be more future-proof then by the 2nd or 3rd quater 2006 (or earlier even) you would be upgrading "ur' current socket 939 rig ....... think about that .... :D

anyways what i have suggested is simply Value for Money strategy. final decision is yours. and about the psu if you are going in for the sempron just about any reasonably rated psu will be good enough.

Thanks a lot DJ.... But the Semprons were in very short supply. Many dealers I spoke to did not have them. They were quoting the prices of Athlon 64 for Sempron.

And anyway, this is a total waste now. My dad decided to get my mom a lappy instead of a dektop. So, mods can close this thread.
