Hi all,

I'm mypoic since 8th grade and have been using spectacles since then, Right now I'm using Kodak AR spectacle lens for the last 3 years and thinking of getting a new lens now. From what I gathered, I shortlisted these lenses

1. Crizal A2

2. Zeiss Claret

3. Hoya single vision lens

I heard that Crizal A2 is good but the seller at Vasan Eye care is suggesting Zeiss as the best lens he prefers. So i'm kind of confused as to which one to go for as I will be using this for the next 2-3 years, so don't want to take risk & repent later.

If anyone is into optical business or any one has used these lenses before, please advice me which one to go for.

I have no idea about the other two, but I've been using the Crizal A2, and am extremely happy with it. Get the polycarbonate variant of the A2. It won't break/chip off, is water repulsive, light weight and is absolutely clear. You won't regret.

Wow! What a co-incidence: two thread in two days created related to optical stuff! My wife is a optometrist and I asked her to rate the above 3 in sequence. She said Crizal is definitely the best and Zeiss is relatively new in the market but is also pretty decent (Hoya comes 3rd in comparison)

I'm also in the same boat. Hope OP doesn't mind if I post some questions of my own.

How is the thickness of the Crizal? My power is around 4-5 so I'm wondering if the lenses would be too thick and make the entire spectacle set bulky.

Thank you for confirming the quality of A2 :)

But how about the scratch resistance of it?? Coz even Kodak claimed of high scratch resistant coating, but even when cleaned with the bundled micro fiber cloth, scratches were visible within the first week of usage, It was very frustrating.

I had sent it for warranty after 2 weeks of purchase citing the scratches, but donno what they did, after it came back, I couldn't see the Kodak laser engraving on lens, I'm guessing they might have polished it. But my doubt is does that remove coatings also??

How about A2? I mean I'm not expecting 100% scratch proof lens, but scratches within a few weeks is not what I'm expecting.

Yeah, most of them are suggesting Crizal, but looks like vasan eye care has a tie up with Zeiss and are pushing it for sales.

No Problem mate, better than creating a new thread for similar query :)

AFAIK there are thinner polycarbonate lens for power > 4 coz my friend is using one which is almost as thin as my lens but his lens power is ~6. I'm not sure of the exact model, but I guess you can find them easily.

@All

Which frame do you prefer?? My budget is 2k max for frame and I'm looking for branded ones this time coz don't want to spend too much on unbranded frames which conked off soon in the past. I'm not really aware of branded frames apart from Titan Eye +, Any other options??

Thank you all for the suggestions :)

Finally went for Crizal Airwear A2 & Tommy Hilfiger Frame, bought both from Titan Eye + :D

Can anyone confirm if the warranty on Crizal A2, is it 6 months?

what about the damages dude..??

I am also planning to change my lens... however, my main concern is scratches..

not good in handling my glasses.. as a result they get dirty/scratchy very soon..

Of the various single vision lenses I've used I found Crizal A2 as the best.

Please note that the Crizal A2 is the name of coating done and not the lens itself.

Crizal A2 is trademark of Essilor who provide Crizal A2 coating on their own lenses as well as to some other manufacturers also. So you can have a Seiko lens with Crizal A2 coating, though most shopkeeper will deny it and say Crizal A2 is only with Essilor but you can check Seiko's lens catalog they will mention Crizal A2.

If you form a layer of mist with your mouth or with running water on the lens, you can easily see the word Crizal. This is different from the zeiss where it is kind of watermarked so it is visible normally as well.

Yeah, Big byte is correct as the sales person at Titan eye + told me the same that they offer Crizal A2 coating on their Titan lens/Nikon/Essilor.

I went for Crizal Airwear lens with A2 coating, costed 2600 for the lens & Tommy Hilfiger Frame costed 5.5k, so total damages were 8.1k excluding the eye test fees.

Got a few discount coupons on next purchase & referrals scheme with some points accumulation system & a membership card everything, which as usual is useless :P

Regarding the quality of coating, I did test all claims they made, tried riding in rain, yes rain drops won't stick. Tried to smudge the lens with fingerprints, again it is very less compared to a normal lens & won't hamper vision. Regarding scratches, too soon to observe. Overall vision is very sharp & clear. Much better than my earlier Kodak lens.

1 year warranty on frame & 6 months warranty for coating.
