So I've decided to take the initiative to approach BSNL to improve their quality and services here. I'm not sure if they will entertain my request to talk to them about it let alone listen to my feedback and suggestions but there is no harm in trying. People we are all screwed by private 3G/4G net providers and tier-3 broadband quality.
So I need some ideas and informations from the more knowledgeable guys here to be able to do it.

Small disclaimer: A close relative, an aunt, is the head of her section in the telephone bhawan here. I will start from there.
But i will only be able to do it after a few weeks or so due to an unavoidable problem.

Please no trolling. Only proper comments.
Thanks.

Ps: i will edit the OP accordingly as more posts pour in.

I guess plans are stuck to whole state. So only initiative you can take is regarding customer service so that prompt action is taken i.e checking the line quality etc if complaints are received.

My first question will be why the hell it takes them weeks for a new connection and weeks for repairs. Their downtime here is insane.
Btw can you be more specific? We need to be as specific as we can in the feedback or they will never understand what we are saying.

You have good question regarding new connection and repairs. I also wanted to say if a complaint is registered why does it take time to fix the problem. They should be prompt. I guess Bsnl must be having 2-5 lineman per area.

Interesting...I think the service would go up when there is good competition. When I had BSNL the downtime (if at all) was only couple of hours and these linemen would immediately be on our doorstep to resolve. With private players around they had to buckle up their service. Also one thing they could improve as they wire the new connection please make sure the cable is not cut and joined with a duct tape. I've seen them bringing in old cables and joining them with duct tapes several times before the end reaches the router/modem.

An article on why BSNL/MTNL perform poorly.
http://telecomtalk.info/heres-why-bsnl-mtnl-perform-poorly/150391/
He however added that one of the reasons for less revenue increase is a decline in subscriber base of landline connections due to shifting towards mobile services
I call BS. Its not like they don't have their own mobile network service. How hard is it to admit that your decline in revenue is due to your poor service?

Full article:
Legacy manpower, delay in network modernisation, and less aggressive market skills are the reason behind the poor financial performances of state-run telecom operators, BSNL and MTNL.
Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said both the telcos are taking several steps to enhance revenues through investments to strengthen their network and focus on customer care and service delivery to improve revenue generation.
He however added that one of the reasons for less revenue increase is a decline in subscriber base of landline connections due to shifting towards mobile services. BSNL, which operates nationally except Delhi and Mumbai, posted 2.32 percent jump in 2014-15 revenue at Rs 28,645 crore.
MTNL, on the other hand, witnessed an increase of 0.90 per cent to Rs 3,821 crore for the same period. In a bid to improve network, BSNL has planned installing 10,510 of 3G base transceiver stations (BTSs) and 14232 BTS for 2G. It also plans to install additional 9,600 of 3G cites and replacing of 5300 old BTS.
MTNL, according to the minister, is taking steps for upgrading and expanding its existing network and is also exploring synergy with BSNL for its mobile services.

Hey guys, so I talked with a local ISP guy who give wireless connection and I got curious.
Does anyone know how much buying a 100mbps/1gbps main line would cost? Wired.
I heard that some IT institutes in my state have core links of 10gbps but these are from NKN so only for educational institutions and research. Can one get similar connection for business purposes? It has to be wired. Wireless are aplenty.
Demographic: 40% gamers, 40% pirates, 20% rest.

You can get a similar 10G links but it'll cost you a bomb.

PS: Pricing depends on area. If its city Tier 3 city it will cost more.

This is exactly how I explained to a collegue of mine (attached below), about how Jio will be a gamechanger and how it will be able to give internet cheaply. Additionally, oversubscription also factors in.

Jio has laid optical capacity all over India. Additionally, Jio will have linked with PEX (Peering Exchanges) such as NIXI.

Now, assume that the cost of internet is Rs 500/1 Mbps line/month. You can download about 400 MB in an hour on a 1 Mbps line, so 2400 MB in 6 hours, and thats just download. We pay 300 INR for 1 GB of internet.

1GB - 300 INR - usable anywhere in India (Mobile Internet)
1GB - 1.67 INR (~300GB/ month on a 500 INR - 1 Mbps line)

Jio is not going to give at this 1.67 INR rate per GB since it has to set up towers and other stuff, but it will give somewhere around 100 INR per GB per month, leading to ....

To give you some idea, If you are an Small ISP which buys 1000mbps or 1Gbps would get 1 megabit for Rs 590 and medium size ISP which buys 10Gbps gets 1mbps for Rs 365 and 20Gbps for Rs 331/month.
So for 10gbps a medium sized ISP pays 36.5 lacs a month. Did I got the calculation correct?
And furthermore this can be bought from TATA/Reliance?[DOUBLEPOST=1466164531][/DOUBLEPOST]

All over India? Source for this?

Source : Jio themselves. We are a Reliance partner (sort of). Had a word with a Jio official.

100/GB Isn't exactly cheap or game changing.

100/GB Isn't exactly cheap or game changing.

Dunn know about game changer but when it is available at 100/GB which is at 33.67% cost what current cartel is offering (297/GB), it appears cheap atleast.

+Service tax 15%.
Yes can be bought from TATA/Airtel/Rcom/Jio/Dishnet/Vodafone/BSNL/Railtel/Pacnet etc.

I believe you are from Eastern part (Only TATA/Airtel/Vodafone/BSNL), So pricing will be 10-20% more than the above said figures.

Installation charges: The main cost will be laying a line to your NOC, For which they would have to dig up roads + lay fiber = Lakhs ₹₹₹₹

100/GB Isn't exactly cheap or game changing.
Definitely cheap and not game changer![DOUBLEPOST=1466172258][/DOUBLEPOST]

I don't know what prices they're offering for you but i have spoken to top brass who is quite confident wholesale bandwidth will be 30% cheaper than what CARTEL has to offer.
Retail 4G pricing is yet to be finalized..

FFUUUU...
How good would wireless be? Any way to optimize the signal and reduce in-game latency directly from the NOC/tower? Not the WiFi but tower to wireless receiver connected to CAT cable to PC.
I guess only people like the Ambanis and the Bansals can start this kind of ventures.

He lied. :@
Come on guys 100rs/1GB may be cheaper than current 3G offers but not cheap enough! I get 98rs/1GB 2G Idea currently and i can finish that in a days time just viewing sites. I was expecting rates like 50GB/1000rs/1mbps=:D
Now that would be cheap!

After all that Jio hype I too was expecting something like 50GB@1K but 100/GB is a dissapointment. :rage:

IKR?
How about.. 20GB 4G + Unlimited* calls @ 1299/month?

Unlimited - Not more than 100 unique numbers in a week.
well though a fast net is a requirement I place super speed under data limit in my priority list. Its not going to help if you finish up the limit anyway. Is Jio 4G only? I thought it was a namesake for all their new broadband.
