hey guys,

i have a dell S1909W 18.5" which i am using with a VGA cable and it's now giving me some

stupid irritating problems...such as loss of display while working and sometimes no

response to the monitor during the startup

I thought it's a problem of mobo's socket but a bit of shaking(to the wire at the CPU's end) let's all the system work properly again:S

I do have DVI cable ..should i use it instead?

if its the problem with the VGA socket, then switching to the DVI would help. but apart from that, you wont observe any difference in quality/performance/colors/contrast etc (atleast not on a 18.5" display).

since you have it, use it :)

new cable can be anywhere around 150/- to 300/- depends on what brand u buy any brand wud do...and quality of dvi shines when u use very high resolution like 1920 x 1080 displays..

true, I have a 19" monitor, when I switched from VGA to DVI, i didn't see any difference.

What card should I buy for my computer to have 1080p HDMI output.

I do not have to play games, just need 1920 x 1080 output via HDMI to watch movies and videos of my full HD Sony Handycam. :).

So, tell me the cheapest solution. My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-G31M.
