After months of wait and trying out different methods, here is a an official software directly fro microsoft which will enable you to sync your contacts directly to Windows Live Contacts. Additionally, it will also backup your pictures, videos and music from the phone to a local folder on your computer.
Note - This is a beta software, so all the caveats of a beta software apply
1. Go to About Microsoft Phone Data Manager Beta - MSN India and download the Phone Data Manager.
2. Simply connect your compatible phone via USB or Bluetooth to your PC. Check out your phone's compatibility from this page - Compatible Phones . A wide range of phone from Nokia, Motorola and SE are supported.
3. Open Phone Data Manager and sign in to your Windows Live ID.
4. If the phone was connected successfully, the phone should show up on the main screen of the Phone Data Manager application.
5. Double click the phone to start the wizard. The Wizard has two steps.
First, it asks you whether the computer is a Public / Shared computer or is it a Private / Trusted computer.
Secondly, it will let you choose whether you want to just sync the contacts online to Windows Live Contacts, and along with that if you would like to backup your pictures, videos and music to your computer.
6. Once you are done with the options, simply click START and the sync will start.
My Comments - I have tried using the Windows Live on Nokia devices but have got it to sync my contacts only once till date. It does not even sign in for me now a days on my E65. After that, i tried importing my Windows Vista Contacts to my Windows Live Contacts using Windows Live Mail, but it would create duplicate entries on every import and would require me to first sync my phone contacts to Windows Contacts (which is a breeze thanks to Nokia PC Suite. One Click Sync :hap2: )
I tried this Phone Data Manager and it gave a system error from the phone's side
