Hi All,
I have a desktop which was running smooth. I had recently replaced motherboard battery since the date was changing and was not booting up properly. after changing the battery everything was fine.
But today it shows "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message. I checked BIOS, HDD is detected. And tried to insert XP Disk . But its not booting from CD even I have given boot priority only CD.

Could you please let me know how to do systamatic diagnosis on this issue?
Its really urgent since I need PC as quickly as possible.
(NOTE: I am typing this from my laptop)
regards,

After BIOS reset go to boot menu, select primary boot device as alone HDD(OS) disable other source. Check whether system HDD have the boot information free from errors. Optical drive could also have trouble reading bootable disk. If problem persist, then conduct HDD diagnostic tests.

Yes, do try to change data and the power cables of active HDD or least reseat it and then boot back again.

thanks for suggestions.

I tried refitting cables. No change.

Then I did reset BIOS using jumpers.

it worked... thanks

Now wondering, what could have been the root cause of this?

Bios Battery seems okey since system date and time are correct.

Faced the same problem.... as mentioned by anadkrishnantc..

For me too the resetting BIOS using Jumpers worked....

Can anyone let me know what can be the root cause for this.... Curious to know :)

AFAIK, if yr bios boot order changes, reset brings the order back to default which is same as in yr system hence system is able to boot.

This problem arise due to corrupt bios info. Resetting clear it.
Rep me if you like my ans :)

BIOS corruption happens because of the flash memory (i guess its flash) stores BIOS info gets weaker by age, or BIOS cell (recently replaced with a Rs.20 cell)?

This is similar to Microcontroller hanging problem (I used to program and test those). Sometimes we need to turn off and on the PCB power switch.

And I dont think anything to do with boot order setting here. I have done all the combinations.

^ Some thing like that, its my assumption that BIOS datas are stored on memory chips. With prolong use and due to inadequate power supply (age old battery supplying low voltage then the required) results in wrong read/write of data i.e. memory corruption.

it may be like this, the bios was suppose to write a particular data from register R and due to some power (or voltage) issue it wrote the data onto register S, then what memory corruption.

Experience members are welcome to give the real reason, i may be wrong
