 hello need help i have intel 2.66 + asus p5gcmx with 8600 gtx pci-e + 1240 Gb hdd card my problem is my system gets on but the monitor light blinks as if there is no display but when u restart it second time it works fine with no problem. flashed my mb bios to the latest one have checked the smps no issue with it diss assemble the system and reassambled it but no solution what could be the problem

I think it is PSU problem.

I recall few yrs ago when I got my ATI 9800 128MB card which was the leading card then, I had similar problem. I took my card & mobo to Best service centre & then found no problem. Then I checked witha friends system & the card worked well. So I had to replace teh SMPS & thecard worked for 4 yrs w/out any problem.

does your BIOS have any setting for choosing primary display ? (PCI/PCI-E) etc?
and while u mentioned that first time system starts with no-display, so apart from display, does it actually boot? (any beeps ?)

Primary display setup PCI-E/PCI system boots up with normal beeps but sometimes it gives no display beeps (one long three short beeps) it works if u restart it 2-3 times

I doubt it to be the PSU. The error u are stating is a POST error which usually occurs because of some hardware installation errors or some loose stuff around. Also, one of the major reason is bad overclocking. Just try to load the setup defaults in the bios and then see if the error occurs again.

Also do u hear the beep when ur PC starts. I mean in those instances when the monitor does not start. If u don't try removing and fixing the RAM modules once.

If all does not work, try the SMPS method. :)

:hap2: It's some manufacturing defect in the 8600 series. i know 8 people who have the 8600 GPU's (including myself) with the exact same problem ! The best option is to go for a replacement (if you're still covered under warranty).

You can try one more thing... Imagine the computer is functioning normally .. it's just that it's without any display at all. Try logging into windows without the display and then try shutting down your system normally. Restart it. 3 out of 10 times you'll get your display back on. You can then boot in through the Safe mode by pressing F8. Back up all your data.Try reinstalling the Graphics card driver as well.
