Hi guys,

One fine day i was watching some youtube videos on the net and suddenly .... the system just HUNG, there was no response whatsoever .Tried starting task manager dint help. It just froze and i had to Hard shut it,

I restarted and after the OPENING SCREEN i.e where it says american megatrends and etc, it dint boot at all.

It asked whether I want to boot into another device (the thing it asks when there is no windows installed) or press enter to reboot. Dint start windows and it stayed as such never booting into windows.

I restarted and went into the BIOS, in the setup i noticed that on SATA 1, SATA 2 ..... etc it was only detecting the ATAPI CDROM i.e. my samsung DVD writer. but was not detecting the HDD on any of the SATA slots.

Tried removing reinserting the RAMS. no change.

Then i thought it might be something to do with the sata and power cables or the slots themselves, removed the cable from slot in which i had inserted the HDD and put it into another one. Removed Power cable from hdd used instead the extra spare one from PSU.

Dint work ,same result.

I dont know much about computers, but i think everything is pointing to my HDD,maybe MOBO

Actually, i live near the coast (Chennai), had a 2 yr history of computer components getting rusted and stuff.

This is my 3rd Mobo on same proc , HDD. Earlier two got rusted and also a HD 4850 failed coz of rust and moisture.

faced many problems with RAM too
<
. Had just got the system running properly with a new GT 240, and this happened. Maybe the HDD has rusted as well. Dint check. (afraid to
<
). Just want a decent desktop with no hassles, but this wont allow me Full of issues.

I dont know but in my whole neighbourhood im the only one facing this issue. No 1 else s computer gets rusted and all.

Please help me out ,am clueless, what else can be the solutions to this problem.

Having problems continously for 2 years. Totally lost faith in a desktop itself.

Laptop im posting this on works fine and its 3 yrs old.

System specs are - Windows 7 32 bit , AMD Phenom 550 BE, 3 gb RAM , gt 240 gfx card, Seagate 500 gb HDD.

Motherboard is ECS Geforce 6100PM and SMPS is Corsair 500 W ( some 3 or 4 yrs old Friends ) Precious one failed

I was suspecting cabinet as culprit as cheap cabinets tend to allow moisture to settle inside, and eventually damage the components. Change it ASAP.

Its definitely he Cabinet. It allows too much moisture to settle. Buy a new cabinet and if possible try out taking out your hdd and see for the rust. If it is there then bye-bye HDD. If not take to someones place and check it there. If still it does not shows up. Then one option left, check for its warranty. Get it replaced before it collects more rust

Without the HDD .. it just boots.. then nothin else... The HDD is n ot being detected itself in the BIOS...

I think the place where i keep the System may accumulate more moisture than normallyy, bcoz my frnd whos my neighbour used a system with stock cabinet (cheap) never had any problems.. in fact most ppl in my neighbourhood dont face any issues wiith rust on electronics.. ..

Also before this system i assembled had used an old Intel based system for like 6 yrs never had problems like that ..... That time too was using the cheap cabinets....

and i had kept that system in the same place before too....

The PSU Fan Grill is fully rusted,.. Backside of cabinet where all the plugs go , that portion is full rusted...

Im not sure if i keep it in another place ,it will help or not..DAMN...

Sorry for whining so much but u can see the situation ... Have bought 2 new Mobos, borrowed a gfx card which also failed and bought a new one GT 240 which i think is fine only... 2 RAMS failed on diff mobo .. Borrowed a PSU ,

I never thought assembling a simple PC would be of so much hassles. MAN!..

I might have been ignorant but nature been so hard on me... LOL..

Im planning to skip desktop na dgo for a good amd trinity laptop and later a PS3 for my gaming needs...

Its possible to back up HDD data??
<
OMG

Hey muffadal!

Idk if this'll help, but how about trying that HDD on your friend's PC?

I am telling you this because I also faced a similar situation back in P4 days.

I had this 40gb hdd, crapped out on me(I Thought so). So after trying all the above, gave it to a friend of mine, who tried it on his PC, and it worked!
<

Also, when I reinserted it after getting it back, it starting working again!!
<

Atleast trying dosent hurt!
