Hey all

I need to buy a wireless card really soon but I have to use it on my Macbook.

Tata's site just mentions Windows in the OS category but I guess even Reliance uses the same modem (if I am right) and mentions Mac as an option in the OS category.

Kindly suggest which provider to go for (in terms of usability, range, speed, etc since the prices are nearly the same)

and which modem to choose (since reliance has 3 options.. dunno about Tata).

If there are any other options available kindly mention them.

Cheers

P.S. Kindly mention how to measure data speeds if I call in for an individual demos from both the providers.

They'll all work.

OS X has alll the required drivers already pre built

However, the OEM units that Tata and reliance provide have a different vendor ID and product ID than what's there on the pre built drivers so all you need to do is add the IDs to the relevant config files

BSNLevdo forums have a nice tutorial on the same..

Although it's just a 5 min job, but if you don't wanna go through the hassle, The Tata Indicom photon white modems (in which the USB port folds up) come with the OS X application pre installed

as for the speeds, it's a function of which service provider has a tower closest to your home so you'll have to to take a demo @ home to determine which of the two will give you better speeds

do they actually give 3.1 Mbps under perfect circumstances? my friend has got the reliance connection, as at his place, he get around 1.6 Mbps, pretty decent, just wondering if anyone actually is experiencing the advertised bandwidth?

PS-Sorry to hijack ur thread buddy, but will help your decision too!
