Dude.

The Dell E228WFP only comes with 2 types of connections>> 1. Normal D-SUB Analog VGA (your typical CRT mointor jack) and 2. DVI connection for a digital input from your gfx/mobo.

In order to connect TV cable/Tatasky to monitor, I currently use an external cheap@ss Tech-Com TV Tuner meant for LCD monitors.

It cost me 1600bucks and is wayy better than the cheapest ones at 900bucks - much more dynamic range and contrast. Though, others might suggest you to step up to a Pinnacle/AverMedia or higher-end brands...what I've noticed is that it all depends on your viewing distance from the screen.

At 3-5ft, a Tatasky connection on my LCD TV Tuner works great. It lacks the bite of a typical CRT TV but it looks like pretty much another LCD TV in the low-range.

So there. Go out, buy yourself a TV-tuner from Tech-com and connect TataSky to it through the analog out on your TV-tuner. At the same time, connect your PC through the DVI. :)

PS: I do not know of any component-to-DSub converting cables...but I wouldn't trust most of them.

PPS: This may not be the best solution out there. Wait for other replies.

PPPS: I've hooked it up to regular TV as well...and Tatasky is wayyy better. :D

PPPPS: This last line is just for kicks. :bleh:

Will be helpful to you, if u want to know more just let me know...........

Dude. The E228WFP has no component-in and that entire thread finds no solution to connecting TV to the E228WFP. :D

Am currently watching the match on Neo Sports sitting 6-ft away with my laptop. It works. :D

@vivekbabbudelhi: Its the SSD-TV 723. This one>> TECHCOMINDIA

There's only one major gripe with it, it's a tad slow in changing channels on the local cable. But that won't matter for TataSky since you'll just be connecting it to the A/V input of the TV-tuner.

This is the cheapest, best VFM to go with that monitor. 22" LCD TV for a total cost of Rs.17,000 thereabouts. Not bad. :D

Check it out.

Sorry for the late reply, also sorry to inform u that the Dell E228WFP
doesnt have Component IN so u cannot connect it directly.
But what u can do is buy a "RGB To YPrPb Trancoder" in simple words
VGA TO Component Converter which will do the work easily but dont know about the Pic quality & res as it all depends on what type of transcoder u opt for.....
If u r searchin for do let me know about any cheap transcoder or converter which can do 1080p me too searchin for.......
This One does but its lil' expensive for me to afford one ATM, u can check it out....

Hey sorry for the wrong info, u cannot even connect it with this, i was thinkin about a different Receiver which has component out. Really missed that.......... So there's no way technically u can get good picture quality on a LCD monitor due to a lot of factors. But, the most important fact right now is that India doesn't even have a DVD quality Channel Broadcasted anywhere.... So u have to wait if some service provider does so......

If HD Broadcasting is avail in india I'll go for MHD [Music High Defination Of MTV Networks], Discovery Channel HD, And few others related to Info nothing else.................

Till then have fun as LCD TV prices are drastically falling down, so if u have a XBOX 360, PS3 or any other HD player, or have a collection of HD Vids like Me
u can buy one... or else its just not worth spending money if u r going to watch Normal Analog TV, or so called DTH....... Thats just me..

And finally THIS link you just posted (http://www.techenclave.com/forums/641955-post14.html) has just a question in it!

Dude, those are your posts saying you havent found a solution to connect to the Dell E228WFP! Please to read the entire thread yourself. :-S

What are we smokin' nowadays? ;)

My bad, coz i always look for quality, as cable tv and set-top box in india wont give u great quality which your LCD can produce so it doesn't suit me watching TV through a TV tuner Box as the picture appears too soft...
and there's very little sharpness in the image.
If u can live with it, then buy a External TV tuner box like
Amazon.co.uk: Gadmei XGA/VGA LCD TV BOX + Play Video Games On PC CRT & TFT Monitor: Electronics & Photo

Yes i know the link is of a UK site, but u can easily find this one in India for
Rs. 1300-1500. And so not forget to check that it has the composite cable
i.e. red, white & yellow cable. As the connector on the Tuner box is lil' diff and u might be having difficulty finding one at some places.

Plug the three connector at the back of your TATA Sky Box and on the LCd, Tata Sky BOx, TV Tuner Box. Press Source/Input on the remote of the TV Tuner Box And on screen u should see TV, Composite, S-video Etc. Select Composite and there u have it. Done.

Also do not forget to connect other, stuff to the ports they belong like power adapter, VGA cable of u r lcd at the back of the TV Tuner box etc ...

And again i'm tellin if u have prob PM me...........

pops up one question...will my samsung 740n be decent enough for viewing with tata sky or should i get the dell?

Basically what I've been saying all through. :bleh: As already said, it wont have the biting definition of a CRT screen but will do from 5ft+ viewing distances.

@jith77: Same rules apply. 17" LCD is tad small for viewing TV but will do okay I guess. Don't expect hi-res glory as has already been said. :)

Last post in this thread. Out.

thanks a lot guys but people do connect it just using cables.. n the monitor is just a display so it shud display properly..right???

also can u tell me wat is the port that comes out of tata sky called???I mean the port in which the 3 cable go...

hey.. a lil ques streching away from the thread.. even if u do manage to get tata sky to work on ta dell.. ul need a separate amp/speaker solution for the sound right??

dont think tata sky is going to improve ur system sound:0....so u ll need watever u use for the system normally
