Whether he was doing it for kicks or for getting stuff for free... he is bound to get quite some kicks in the Police Station.. :bleh:

First point that shud've made anyone suspicious is why would a US citizen buy a lappy for himself in India :S

^^ AFAIK, It will be reverted back after owner of CC founds transactions.. (had some experience with paypal)

American credit cards normally dont allow the shipping address to be different from the billing address, unless the account holder adds an auxillary address to their account.

Wonder how that was bypassed in this case.

In my experience - kerala and chennai police are much better then other parts of the country. bribery is everywhere still they are responsive and responsible to a good extent.... no idea about J/K

Btw good job by techshop.. many shop owners ignore this due the insufficient knowledge or profit.

J.K Policemen are extremely helpfull.
I have had an personal exprience when I was in Ladhak.
My friends wallet was stolen from the hotel, the policemen made sure that we were somewhat (20%) compensated by the hotel management..

I don't know about germany but in the US, you could refuse to pay those bills and provided you can back it up the credit card company will eat the loss. So a credit card in the US offers a decent amount of protection to the consumer in this regard unlike the ones here that are no better than debit cards.

my grandad's amex got misused. someone bought a lappie on his card, but amex was very cooperative and didnt charge him for it.

Great work Techshop ! First time i have noticed a vendor tracing the transactions !!

The first rule is esp if you use paypal , make sure that the paypal password does not match the email password.

It is easy to get access to these kind of details now a days, coupled with fake ip`s thro vps, the only way to catch the thief is not allowing your password to be hacked.
