1. Physical inspection - check the body thoroughly...no cracks, opening etc... Check each and every button... switch on the cam and use each and every button again and again to find if all are working or not...(just dont press them keeping cam off.)
2. inspect if rubber of grip is not coming out,..
3. check electronic contacts for lens on the body is good or not...
4. see the viewfinder.. not to much dust should be there (though it could be easily cleaned)_ remove the lens, and minutely eye the mirror and screen....
dont entertain scratch on mirror... check if too much of dust exist in mirror and focusing screen...
(dust on VF or FS is not big issue, but new chaps often break their nerves when they later discover it)
5. To check lens - again check body thoroughly... check all buttons, move the rings...
focusing and zooming ring should have soft motion.. there should not be a coarse motion...
6. Electronic contacts are well.
7. No scratches dust and
fungus in lens...
this might help..
The Flashlight Test
Taking shots....-
take some shots to find some things like..
- lens aperture is working perfectly...
- shutter is ok.. no wired sound comes.. normal sound is there.. do not hangs..
- all buttons are ok
- to find fungus or dust on the sensor...- set the aperture to F22 kind of and make a shot of seamless white thing... take it to the comp, bump the contrast by 50 and watch the whole photo at 100%.. if there is no dark/black spots, everything is fine...
- LCD etc working fine..
will add up more as I remember...
