Of late I notice in the reply box that formatting options have become disabled. See attached. This is on chrome using a phone. What could be the reason?

Yes it's an issue of ye old. Clear your browser cache and login again.

Check if you accidentally tapped on the markdown button. Tap on the 3 dots to the right of undo and it's the 3rd icon represented by square brackets. Tap on it again to disable it.
