Hi Guys

when i update TF2 on steam it always tells me to update my gpu drivers to the latest version.

I really hate updating my gpu drivers as the stock drivers provide the best stability for me.

Is there a way around.

If i dont update the gpu drivers TF2 doesnt run just tell me launching game but nothing happens.

This is really frustrating.

Which is the current most stable driver for my Ati X800XL. [want ur suggestions]

disable the update from setting for TF2 and continue to play or pause the update....

don't forget to restart steam after anything you change to take the setting otherwise it just keeps update.

For my X800XT, I use Catalyst 6.12 which were the final set in the 6 series and the latest before the focus was switched towards the newer X1xx series.

Btw what framerates do you get in TF2 on your X800XL and 3000+?
My 2600+ proves to be a severe bottleneck for my X800XT even at 640x480.

i thot (after reading some anandtech reviews etc) that lower resolutions caused the CPU to be the limiting factor, have you tried progressively higher resolutions (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024) to see which gives best frame rates?

ideal FPS i get for TF2 at 1024x768 with everything turned on is 52FPS but when there is loads of things going on it drop to 35-40 FPS

I get exactly the same framerates at 640x480 0xAA and 1152x864 4xAA.

I tested in the commentary mode near that place where all the 9 classes are showcased side by side, and I got 24fps on both settings (640x480 0xAA and 1152x864 4xAA).
Actual gameplay tells the same story.
