Graphic Cards The Best Video cards

Anish

Forerunner
Well I have put together all the best GFX cards to my knowledge in the different price categories. Correct me for mistakes.

Entry-level :

ASUS 6200 AGP / Turbocache - Rs.5200

Why ?
1. Highly affordable
2. Better performance than the FX5200
3. AGP and PCIe versions available.

Alternatives :

Gainward FX 5200 - Rs. 2,500
Gigabyte 9600XT - Rs. 6,850

Mid-Range :

Gainward Ultra 6800 - Rs.13500
Why?
1. Not because I own it ;)
2. Great heatsink and cooling design.
3. Easily unlocks to 16x6 pipes configuration.
4. Highly overclockable even on stock cooler.

Alternatives :
Leadtek 6600GT - Rs.10,200
Powercolor X800XL - Rs.18,900

High-End :

2 X Gainward 6800 Ultra SLI Watercooled - N/A
Why?
1. Nothing to say about it, already discussed before.
2. The most ruthlessly powerful cards available now. Price not to be considered.

Alternatives :
2 X MSI 6800 Ultra SLI - N/A
Powercolor X850XT PE - Rs.38,500

I have tried my best to include cards sold in India but people who can afford high-end cards usually get it from abroad. Prices are indicative and taken from dealers excluding taxes and may vary depending on location.

hmm i would rate the 6600 gt higher than the 6800.. simple because the 6600 gt is availabe in both pci-e and agp in india.. while the pci-e version of 6800 in not yet arrived in india.. correct me if i`m wrong..
and i think from entry level to mid-range is a big jump.
you should include
high entry - low range cards ;)
6600 128 mb pci-e/agp - 6.5k
6600 256 mb pci-e/agp - 7.5k
:P

Are u sure about the 6200 AGP?Its 64-bit and is closer to 6k here. The Gigabyte 9600XT is good though provided its available at the price you say it is.

1. Nothing to say about it, already discussed before.

When you create a thread like this, you cannot say "nothing to say, already disscussed before"

I think mid range cards shld include the 6600, 6600 gt not 6800

Well its not like mid-range shud include this nd not tht :bleh:
Pricing is taken into consideration...
For Eg: the low mid-range the Leadtek at 10.2k sounds good.....
whr as Smewht higher the Xl will kick-ass....
After all its how much money u got to spend ;)

Really didnt knew it.
Thanks for the confirmation Masky.

How good is it compared to 6600GT & also whats its CPU & Ram Speed.
Also does it have GDDR3 Ram

Basic Specs for Nvidia GeForce 6600 256MB

Graphics Processor: Nvidia GeForce 6600

Graphics Core Clock Speed: 300MHz

Installed Video Memory: 256MB

Memory Clock Speed: 2x450 [900MHz DDR-3]MHz

Memory Bus Width: 128-bit

EDIT:

OK.. looks like only a few PCIe 6600 256 use GDDR3 (900MHz) and most AGP/PCIe use 550MHz.. i am still not sure.. still searching..

:S

Thatz why i said he should have considered the 6600, 6600 gt first before the 6800 in the midrange category.

idiotic nvidia site.. doesnt carry any info on lower end cards.. atleast ATI site is much better in providing basic info.. :bleh:

6600 GT is clearly a better buy then 6800 NU right now, its nearly as fast as the 6800 NU and is atleast 3k cheaper, its a no brainer.

Also ppl who are buying cards from abroad, MSI X800 for 195$ is a better card then 6600GT as well as 6800 NU

Nope, thats only on stock speeds. The 6800 will perform better with its 16 pipes unlocked and 256-bit memory interface. Also very overclockable, I OC'ed from 325/350 to 375/400 easily and I read somewhere that it can be OC'ed to 400/450 on stock cooling.

And yes Crazy_Eddy, I have unlocked the pipes. Will post some scores soon...

I wud still prefer the X800 coz for under $200 thats THE card to beat.

Overclockability and unlocking are a bonus, not a certainity. That is why I say I wud prefer the X800

Lets get the facts staright:
The clocks for the 6600gt are :500/1000 for pci-e and 500/900 for agp.Ram type is GDDR3.
For the 6600 vanilla its 300/550 or 300/500 for both 128mb and 256mb versions.Ram type is ddr1.(basically nvidia leaves it to the mfg. to decide whether to use 500 or 550 mhz rams)
In addition there are various mfg. "speciality" models like the MSI 6600 Diamond that use 400/800 clock as the base speeds.
The X800 is a fabulous deal in the states right now,no doubt about that though. But here....I think I have harped on enough about how India sucks when it comes to video cards.
Also the 6600Gt is closing in on the $150 mark esp. for the pci-e version and so its as good a deal as the x800 vfm wise.
