Despite delays, the game is in the hands of 2K Marin (Bioshock!) and the release could possibly be hinted this April 26th.

The XCOM universe is expanding.
In the coming days the world will get a fresh look at the long-awaited squad-based tactical shooter in development at 2K Marin. Announced back in 2010, the game has undergone an evolution since we last showed it to you at E3 2011. Firaxis’ critically acclaimed turn-based strategy title, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, has reignited the classic franchise and we feel that the time is right to deliver a new experience within the world of XCOM.
The creative development of this game has been a collaborative process of discovery and iteration. 2K’s culture allows our studios the freedom to refine their visions, to explore new ideas, and to deliver the best possible experiences for players. Through this exploration, 2K Marin has refined their vision, and as a result the game has evolved into a high-stakes narrative experience imbued with core XCOM concepts.
The wait is nearly over and we can’t wait to share more details with you about the game in only a matter of days.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified announced for this August

2K Games has announced that their third person shooter reboot of XCOM is going ahead after all, and is keeping its 1962 period setting.

First revealed as long ago as 2010, the controversial reboot of XCOM is finally getting a release on August 23, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game upset fans because of how radically it diverged from the original turn-based strategy game, but actually we were quite impressed by what we saw back at E3 2011.

Either way, with last year’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown sticking very close to the original template there’s now much less reason to get upset about a different take on the same universe. Indeed, despite the name change to The Bureau: XCOM Declassified not an awful lot seems to have changed since we first saw the game.

It’s still being developed by BioShock 2 (but not 1 or Infinite) creators 2K Marin and is set at the height of the Cold War, telling of the XCOM organisation’s first encounter with the aliens. You’ll be playing as special agent William Carter, leading a squad of other agents into every battle.

Unfortunately there’s no new footage of the game though, just another of these wretched live action trailers that seems to have become inexplicably popular with publishers all of a sudden. The screenshots though suggest that game still look largely the same as it always had.
