Will not buy it even at $99 and I am not an iPhone fanboy :)

Lolz... In some months this will be readily available in India like all those Chinese Nokia's... And the price would be ~1/5th of what iPhone sells for... Then maybe you will get interested...

Those CHINA phones are not too bad either & for the price I think they could be used..

As soon as we hear loud music from a phone somewhere in our college campus, or elsewhere.. someone will just comment "chinese".

The situation might be different at your place.

But lots of chinese phones, mind you by chinese we mean non-branded(at least not established brands), are seen here and some people are quite fed up with them. Tempting for who never owned a color phone, but frustrating for some.

Your "Loud phones = Chinese" assumption from me is incorrect, and I never said so. Read me sensibly, might not be exact facts but it's like that. :P

Even the iPhone is made in China....

It's a question of semantics...

Even though most Indians know most phones are made in China, the term Chinese phones essetially refers to cheap and shoddily built knockoffs of known brands made by unknown local manufacturers in China that typically do not pay much attention to quality control

Same way as the term Delhi maal was colloquially used 10 years ago (and maybe even today) to refer to cheap and low grade electricals and electronics made by small time manufacturers mostly concentrated in N. Delhi

Killed ? I think it commited suicide :P

Don't underestimate the effect of hype or the purchase power of the Indian Mobile phone consumer. From what I heard, iPhone's are selling like hot cakes in spite of the ridiculous price.

The price may look ridiculous to us people who actually understand what the phone is about, but neither Airtel nor Vodaphone have any problems selling at that extremely high price and they are making a lot of money.

Though the typical Indian is very price conscious, it does not seem to extend to Mobile phones. There are always consumers here for mobiles in very price range from the lowest to the highest.

The sad part is that a major percentage of those high end phone buyers buy it for the heck of it. They don't use the phone for anything more than making phone calls or for using the camera or mp3 player.

A duplicate with always be a duplicate. Some people dont mind, but many do!!

Some of those duplicates may turn out way better than the original and especially so if they are Apple products. It happened to iPod. In the south eastern countries, the market was flooded by duplicate iPods and they sounded so better than the original iPods that the consumers confused the originals for duplicates and bought duplicates. They same would have happened to iPhone had to not been that Apple uses Mac OS X for the phone. Still there seems to be a lot of Windows Mobile based iPhone clones coming up in the Chinese markets with better hardware specs than the iPhone. Meizu M8 is a typical example.

original will be original, fake will be fake. there will be buyers for both. but i bet living with the original will be more piece of mind and put a hugh smile on the face, i know since i owned 3 brand new iphones from the usa. i kept selling and buying nokia and sony but still kept getting iphone between. in 9 months this went on. i sold my iphone 2g only to wait and get the 3g one. now the price is kinda annoying me since i do not spend on phones anymore. will wait a while and get the 3g

C'mon Nemesis..

I know you don't like Apple, but this is a lil' too much to digest

I have seen those cheap WinMo clones, and they are shi%%y to say the least

God only know how much more shi%%ier an iPhone clone will be

as for the ipod clones, the less said the better

Well I cant say anything about the iPhone clones as I havent come across any personally, but I had personal experience with iPod clones. I had listened to iPod Shuffle, Nano, Classic and they sounded way inferior to a re-branded Chinese iPod Nano clone I tried. I also recently had a listen to a colleagues iPod Touch and it was no better.

I am no music buff myself, but the difference in audio quality was distinguishable even to my ears. I would agree if you say iPod has great navigation controls, but as far as audio quality is concerned its a mediocre player at best.
