This is my honest attempt to lure people out of Winamp and into foobar2000 :)

As far as i know, the audio clarity of foobar2000 without any DSPs is far better than Winamp+DFX.

There are multiple options of downloads. Lite, notmal and Special. The only differences are the amount of plugins, you can even download just the lite version, and any extra plugins u need from the fb2k site.

After you installed fb2k, the first thing u'll notice, is that the interface is verrrry shitty......( ugh...i nearly stopped using this coz of the interface )

So, after searching thru the net, i finally landed upon foo_tunes 2.0 UI plugin.

Its a very neat plugin, vastly improves the looks of fb2k.

Most people who used foo_tunes reported that fb2k crashes when using this plugin, and so it has been removed from download links from almost all websityes. Fortunately, i never had any problems with the UI plugin. And i'll also save you people time by attaching the plugin here ;)

The explorer is a very nifty feature :clap: u can just browse, drag and drop the files u want to hear. forget the add files, etc, blah blah.....

here are the instructions on installing and using footunes plugin :

1. Download the attached file

2. Extract the contents into your foobar directory\Components

3. Open fb2k, Foobar2000 in the menu, Preferences. Then go to Display -> User Interface -> foo_tunes

4. Click Save all, close the player.

5. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Task manager. goto processes, if there is any instance of foobar2000.exe even if the player is closed, kill it. This is some kinda bug i faced, and this is the remedy.

6. Open fb2k, the explorer tabs will be on the leftmost side, drag them to the right to reveal the explorer. You can turn off the explorer or information tab by clicking the appropriate buttons on the Views toolbar.

Extra feature :

goto Foobar2000 -> Preferences -> foo_tunes User Interface -> pulse logo (check it). Yhis makes the foobar logo in the player vibrate ( i cant an appropriate word for this!!!! )
 
For all you chat freaks, here's the yahoo status plugin :D

Here are the instructions on installing and using y! status plugin :
1. Download the attached file
2. Extract the contents into your foobar directory\Components
3. Open fb2k, Foobar2000 in the menu, Preferences. Then go to Yahoo Messenger status -> Enable Plugin. You can also customise what should appear on the bar too.....

I'm currently using the Special edition, full install except the wma plugin (hate media player, asks me to install WMP9 inorder to use it ) and these 2 plugins.

Enable ASIO (U need creative/m-audio or other pro cards for real ASIO drivers). If you use NF2/NF3/NF4, u can use nvidia ASIO else for other cards, download

Enable ASIO from Preferences->Playback->Output->ASIO.

Next configure resampler from Preferences->Playback->DSP Manager->Resampler
Set the resampler target sample rate to 48000 Hz and enable slow mode(unless u have VIA Envy24/EMUXXXX or better :P. In that case you don't need a resampler).
Finally enable Resampler and Advanced Limiter in DSP manager and Rock On!! :D

Edit: Totally forgot... Congrats u just got new sound equipment courtesy foobar. It sounds THAT much better.

Advanced Streaming input/output. It provides low latency playback recording... basically bypasses the windows API for audio and talks straight with the device driver of the sound card.

I tried out the insturctions mentioned by you above and I get the error "could not load foo_tunes.dll", I am using Win 2K, the foobar version was the special edition...

Please help, the interface sux...
PS: I extracted both the DLL file and the attached folder(containing the icons) into the components folder and then tried by extracting just the dll file but to no avail.

Help needed :(,

AM reviving this thread ;).

I feel my foobar doesnt gimme the max output.

Chaos, could you please post the ASIO Link again, after downloading the ASIO drivers from the asio4all website, I couldnt see ASIO in foobar :(.
 
foobar's new version dosent take up these plugins also...it would be gr8 if sm 1 put up some links which has stuff for the new version..:)
