using Mitsubishi 1800mAH cells.....takes 1.5-2 hours to full charge using the charger included with the cam (gets evrrry hot :oops: )

PS : using a Nikon Coolpix 3200

I have 4 Sony's 2300mAH which charge in one hour and I have 4 Everyready (Indian) 2100mAH which did not complete charging even after 12 hours in the same charger - I stopped the charge after 12 Hours :@

I have today come across these excellent pages on Batteries - there is lots of good info here.....

@TechHead - know of any good place to buy NiMH batteries in Mumbai ? What about Heera Panna ?

EDIT: Just came across a nice site for NiMH batteries...

my batteries GP are right up there except sanyo i do not think any other brand is available in india.

even sanyo and panasonic are available through the grey channel but i am sceptical about their reliability and authenticity.

@Sunny
it is normal for batteries to get hot while being charged as it is one of the part of the chemical reaction. like your rig heat up during the oc manouvere.

I know the Photo dealers from when I was doing Pro Photography and believe me these guys can be more expensive then the people at Lamington Road. When I needed to buy button cells for my SLR cameras DN Road camera stores were about double the price of Lamington Road - sometimes even more than that :O

@medpal - a couple of days back when I was at Lamington Road I saw the same Sanyo batteries which are near the top of the list - the packing was the same - God knows if they were fakes - I was offered those batteries @ 60/- each battery for a pack of 4.

sorry for bump..
my battery sanyo 2100 mAh is lasting for only 30-40 pics with 2 of them with flash.. used it with lcd on and also used zoom on/off.. is this value acceptable... also my camelion charger takes 10-14 hrs to recharge.. is these normal values>

I have a high speed Sony Charger with Sony 2300 and Eveready 2100 batteries.... the Sony Batteries charge in one hour and can be used for about 30 - 40 pics whilst the Eveready batteries charge in 2.5 hours and can be used for about 100+ pics.

I spent some time in the Canon Digital Cameras forum and saw that some people there too have this low pic rate with NiMH batteries whilst other people mention very high figures of 200 - 300 pics.

I would suggest you have alook on the pages I linked earlier - lots of good info on chargers and batteries in these pages...

@Blue :

that 40-50 pics with lcd on is pretty decent time of battery power i think.

as your batteries are new and may note increase in power output after a few cycles of charge and discharge.

charging time varies with charger and batteries ratings / type / brand.

my 1600 mAh batteries take around 1.25 - 1.5 hours to charge.

nope it depends upon the charger.

my charger has visual indicator and also a ring alarm to inform it is fully charged.

your charger may also have some sort of cut off technique.
