GTR 2 won racing goty from both Gamespy and IGN :)
Finally some appreciation after the equally good GTR and GT Legends going completely unnoticed.

edit: FIFA07 best sports game :-S .. lol .. uncle sam really needs to learn football :P

Gamespots awards are the only ones I really care for thanks to the dubious honours they give out. They also consider games from all platforms in various award categories unlike other sites that have seperate categories for each platform thereby diminishing each awards worth.

IGN.com presents The Best of 2006

We know you're aching to know what our overall picks from all platforms are. However, to give the IGN editors a chance to play every possible nominee over the holiday break, we're holding off on our final winners from all platforms until Friday, January 12th, so be sure to check back then. We'll also be posting your picks in mid-January, so look for the Readers' Choice ballots on the various IGN sites and tell us what you thought were the best titles of 2006.

Until then, enjoy reading our Best of 2006 channel awards, and remember to check back in January for our overall picks and to see what the IGN readers thought were the best of the year.

Can't wait till they announce this list.

FF12 has the best chances of taking up the overall best game of the year 2006.

Best New Console : Ps3.

IGN.com presents The Best of 2006

Console launch years only come around twice a decade or so, and they're always guaranteed to be exciting years. The 360 matured dramatically since this time last year and its second-generation titles like Gears of War and CoD3 made the PlayStation 3's job of shocking the world with its immense power rather difficult.

Nintendo's Wii launched to massive mainstream applause and a lot of hope has been placed in the potential for gaming innovation via the console's unique controller. Nintendo disappointed some, however, by choosing not embrace HDTV or to compete with Sony and Microsoft in processing power. The Wii can't even play normal DVDs.

Judging the consoles based upon a broad perspective that includes software now available and coming in the future an entirely different argument could be formulated. However, from a hardware perspective, the PS3 is by far the more interesting console. Though the launch software hasn't blown anyone away, the 360's launch titles were equally unimpressive, and the system will certainly mature. Sony's embrace of the PS3 as a computer rather than just a console, and the availability of supported Linux distributions for the console will also develop and will likely bear entirely unexpected fruit in future.

*smells heat from anti-ps3 trolls*

rofl.

this is the reason y i had stopped visiting these sites ages ago.
any site that gives best sports game award to fifa really doesnt know any shit about gaming especially when it comes to sports genre.

^^ Technically speaking if you want the most realistic sports simulator, EA would eat the cake out here too with FIFA manager 2007. PES doesnt even come close if you compare to real like simulation.

Its a matter of choice, FIFA 2007 plays quite well, it is as much if not more then PES. And PES is certainly not that accurate at simulating real football, even Liverpool cant play that fast. Agreed the ball control in PES is much better, but rosters and other nifty features of Fifa make it compete well.

^ Boss, please spare me . I am not talking about a footie management game, I am talking about a football sim.And FIFA 2007 is NOT a Sports sim, its a circus sim.

For a REAL Football SIM Game, you HAVE to play PES 6.

Ask you bro if you want.
