Storage Solutions the meaning of reallocated sector count

Hello,

my WD15EARS shows reallocated sector count as 1 which was earlier zero.
Does this mean that slowly this disk may go off?
I have vital data on it.

No.. you are safe till the count starts increasing.. It simply means you have 1 bad sector & data was moved from there to another location. All modern HDD's have some reserved sectors (read locked). In case they develop bad sectors then they will move the data there & mark the corrupt sector as bad.

Now the thing is that there is only a fixed amount of sectors & when they are exhausted then you will be in a data loss situation.. So keep a check on the count & the value under "Current" should not get below the "Threshhold"... Value for Data is just the amount of data which was moved..

ummm, if you have "vital" data then please make separate copies anyway (like one on another HDD and another set on DVDs or something) even if your HDD wasn't showing any troubling signs...

once you face sudden/unexpected data loss and have made no backups, its a soul-crushing, life-changing experience :D
