The Trumps & Elon tweets thread (Had to make this since it's never ending)

S&P and Dow will generally move the same amount. You can check the number yourself by googling and google will show the graph on top of the search results, there you can select your range by dragging. As you can see it's still 19%, when the video was posted it was 15%.
Close enough. 15% instead of 3% as I posted earlier.
I was saying that regarding deportations, I don't expect the government to retaliate against tariffs because there's not really much they can do. But reducing Harley Davidson import duty was surely cowardly and got this people pleaser government nothing in return.
Also, separate pharma tariffs are incoming, will probably be lower but they will come.

Yeah, go check that very helpful table I pisted and see how much pharma makes up of our exports to the US :)
Article is saying they were able to export 1 month worth or exports. What will happen after 1 month? Do you think Trump is backing down?? Apple has imported entire cargo planes full of iphones from China in anticipation of these tariffs, it is being reported they have enough inventory to sell for several months. This is standard tactics and everyone is doing it.
This we will find out in a months time. Nothing is set in stone. It's all fluid and open to negotiation ;)

Something interesting I heard in today's senate hearing regarding India -

The administration has announced it's negotiating an agreement also with India and it appears already to be yielding results such as
India dropping its digital services tax. Although India has high tariffs its non-tariff barriers are just as significant. If not more so will you
try to include commitments on matters such as intellectual property technical barriers to trade and science-based agricultural rules to take on those barriers?
The first one is referring to pharma patents - which have allowed generic drug production in India.
The second is clearly talking about GMOs. So far India has kept of US agri products by saying we don't allow GMOs.

Now it looks like US will arm twist India to accept both. Keep an eye out for this in the news.

Most news videos on YouTube about China's 84% reciprocal tariffs have nearly all Asian commenters across countries cheer for China, as they are the only Asian country able to stand up to United States. Basically, all other Asian countries are being labelled as being spineless and getting bullied by the bully.
By whom? The usual CCP bots.

China is fighting with its back to the wall. If the US stops Chinese imports China will be done.

China cannot stand up the US. They would like you to think they run Asia. Not when there's an Indian tiger on the prowl.
Was reading an article few days back that US has failed to introspect and realise that most of the trade deficit has come from their approach to consumerism and capitalism, basically encouraging people to buy a lot of cheaper Chinese stuff using borrowed money.
China will make good with the US if China knows what's good for China.

This little snafu is showing the world exactly how little China's power over the US really is and that its the US that dominates China.
Who would have thought that China would become the paragon of global trade. I suppose China may end up striking a favourable deal with more countries than US will.
US made China. If necessary US can break China.
India as always will miss the bus by trying to sit on the fence as much as possible.
On the contrary we made ourselves without external assistance. Our growth is unstoppable.

@blr_p
"Build a better relationship with USA"++ and "Forge special defense relationship with Europe" is not going to work together...
Trump like mentality will automatically questions this.
Yeah it will. We manage relations between Iran, the gulf & Israel just fine.
There's any number of things we can buy from the US. Remember the 500 boeing passenger planes thing floated some time back.

P8 Orions, Seamaster sub hunters etc. We won't get fighter jets.

Another news which will dominate the coming days (outside the useless Indian media), no more staying in US to look for a job after MS in US universities.

Nothing has been passed. These articles are all speculative and fear mongering.

US is doing this because they have run up a huge trade deficit to China and China owns over $750 billion of US government bonds. They can easily damage the US economy. It is not the 90s any more and US is much more dependent on China than the other way round. Also, when it comes to survival, most Asian countries will easily turn towards China, especially if it turns to dumping goods again.

The general opinion of economists is that US will likely suffer more if they don't reach an agreement.

And no, India's growth is not self-made. It will suffer immensely from a trade war.

At least there is someone in the government who recognises how superficial India's growth story is.

You are about to find out how true or not that is :)

China is looking to save face. That is what all autocrats have to do to stave of domestic unrest.

Also, when it comes to survival, most Asian countries will easily turn towards China, especially if it turns to dumping goods again.
India will not as will others that would lose domestically as a result.

Which economists :)

Let this play out and see. Trump knows what he is doing. Everybody else is trying to figure it out. The world and especially China will learn you cannot get into a game of chicken with the US and win.

I'm surprised at the defeatist comments. Everybody since before WW2 that bet against the US has lost.

But all it takes is some chinese bots and opposition media to convince you otherwise?
And no, India's growth is not self-made.
Indian growth since independence is ENTIRELY self made unlike China, Germany & Japan who were assisted by the US and had the benefit of a peace dividend since WW2. India faced sanctions because of our tests since pokran-1. We've never known a decade of peace since independence and still we grew.
It will suffer immensely from a trade war.
There is no trade war between India & the US. China otoh is going to be fcuked :D

Interdependence is still going to be there. The world is working on bilaterals with the US.
We are waiting for better. I'm not knocking swiggy or bigbasket.

When it comes to logistics Amazon is still where it was twenty years ago. Bigbasket is waay better

They are. How many was it? 75 & counting. That's a lot of countries to work out individual deals with. That's why the pause

When you grab people by the balls their hearts & minds will follow :D

IKR, the orange man confirmed yesterday that the 90 day pause was fake news but did a 180 after coming to his senses after China started dumping US treasuries lol.
That's why he hiked tariffs to 125%?

Effectively, a declaration by the US of economic war on the CCP.

Also you are forgetting something basic here.

If you owe the bank $1 million, the bank owns you.
If you owe the bank $1 billion, YOU own the bank.

Not just him, but "fans" also have to cope very hard. Including those on this very thread, who said CNBC "jumped the gun" and the orange team's favourite term : "fake news".

Karoline Leavitt has the most difficult job in the world.

Trump said India was the tariff king but India has had the lowest tariffs imposed out of any country so far. The Indian prices will go up the least compared with other countries. No hard feelings towards the US from India in this case is there.
Look at the table I posted and tariffs apply to like 3% of our total exports :D

Bangladesh textile industry hit hard. A bonus for our foreign policy there just when we need it the most.

China's small parts industry hit hard.

Europe's specialised machinery hit hard.

He makes a good point about American debt which is currently larger than American GDP.

One of the best ways of getting rid of international debt is through inflation because it makes that debt cheaper to service. This is well known.

In the end our foreign policy has been handled the Modi way which is quietly behind closed doors instead of the public spectacle of the Canadian PM or EU's Ursula Von der Crazy. No drama we just deal with him as we did in his first term.

Is this good or bad for us? I mean this has been orchestrated by our premier directed by Trump. Is it?

Is this good or bad for us?
Better to ask how good or bad

It's a lot less bad for us than it is for others.

Isn't it obvious?
I mean this has been orchestrated by our premier directed by Trump. Is it?
Coordinated and handled might be a better word. Listen to what he says about the Modi meet and those repeat trips by Piyush Goel.

That is true if you take Trump at his ar*e value.

He sure knows what he is doing. Completely logical to announce and rollback new "big" numbers every day.

Reminds me of Amit Shah's call during the election campaign, we all know what has happened to retail investors in the last 7 months.
Funnily he doesn't post all this nonsense on his main X profile, these are all limited to his truthsocial account catering to his rabid fanbase of QAnon/7D chess/4Chan subscribers.

We have to wait and see how China is going to respond.
What if they add prices on exports to all other countries.
Interestingly, their market also is up, market makers there are expecting government support.
