The Trumps & Elon tweets thread (Had to make this since it's never ending)

Whoops, turns out there were no tariff exemptions after all -

Ok bois. Time to rev up the spin engines. Tell me how this is a 4D chess move again. LMAO.
Old posts on this thread about Trump playing chess have been removed (or maybe edited) Chess is being played everywhere.

Now that your main squeeze gave you a kick you think India wants to be your side chic?
China-India economic and trade relationship is based on complimentarity and mutual benefit. Facing the U.S. abuse of tariffs, which deprives countries, especially Global South countries, of their right to development, the two largest developing countries should stand together to overcome the difficulties.
The PRC are desperate. You only have to go through her timeline to see the fake affection on display.

Lots of critical replies under that tweet.

^See the Trump effect

Wonder what the most common purpose of those 85k travellers will be. They are not going for fun. Business most likely. The government should be wary about dumping because I'm sure a lot of stuff is going for below cost price. So it's easy money for any importer.

They refuse to settle the border, change the tune whenever they want, we have to follow their music until they give us another slap? This crap is not going to continue.

Externally they praise but internally they bash us. Good going for Piyush Goel

Even if China and the US face trade restrictions and high tariffs, India cannot seize the market that China leaves behind, Long believed. He explained that India's production capabilities are lacking, and its production costs are high. Furthermore, Indian manufacturing also heavily relies on China's supply chain.
Cannot immediately seize but eventually India will move into areas it wants to. Also India isn't interested in becoming another China so these one to one comparisons aren't always applicable. Or another Vietnam (reseller of China's stuff)

The situation as it is means have to come to India if you want to survive.

Just one example. More to come. No Tier 1 cities. They are heading to Tier 2, 3 and so on. Upto state governments to do the needful or lose to one that does

USA is trying to be self sufficient by forcing local manufacturing through tariffs, in that case rest of the world should look for opportunities of self sustenance without depending on USA. Looks like this fiasco will automatically workout to a multi-polar world.

Yep, make in India is going to accelerate like anything.

The CCP is pushing their narratives all over the place. Getting picked up by the left liberal lot and parroted further

1. Globalisation will collapse
It won't

2. US will be affected more than China
This one is YUGE :D

3. US will lose geopolitical trust / US empire will either collapse or end
Why should that happen?

4. Likely global recession & deflation
Why did global demand suddenly go away?

5. Dedollarisation
Always a good one to run with if the previous four don't pan out

The US considers China a threat to the global order. Whether to the present or the next. So the US has to decouple from China. After which China will no longer have its present geoeconomic/geopolitical heft it presently enjoys because the west wholesale and foolishly moved their manufacturing there.

Heard that decouple from China thing a lot during the pandemic. But the biggest opponents are US corporations & Wall St. So very little decoupling could happen under Biden. US chambers of commerce doesn't support Trump nor wall St which Trump considers represent more the upper class than the working class that make up his base.

He's very sensitive and can read the ground well if anything were to impact this group. The ones that live from one paycheck to the next with almost no savings. That's 60% of the population. Who should really be termed the poor but are not. Indian equivalent is ones that can't handle high onion prices

The upper class he cares less for. They didn't vote for him and likely hate his guts. The tech bros all realised they had to make good with Trump when it became clear their preference would not prevail in the elections.

Oh and watch for that opposition narrative that says Trump only cares for the rich. This is either gross ignorance or misinformation. There is no way he would have won if that perception took hold. It didn't so why are people repeating it here? Enough people in the US don't believe it.

It was not foolish, it was the capitalists of USA who prioritised profits over the long term well being of their own country's working class. Politicians of both parties didn't say anything because they received donation from those people. Now the chickens have come to roost and both parties recognise that USA is in a decline and are trying trade protectionism (that's why Biden didn't lift Chinese tariffs imposed by Trump). American think tanks (left and right) as a whole recognise that China needs to be contained, that's why they're both trying similar things.

PS: Electronics is closely followed by machinery/ engg supplies followed by 10% textiles.. the rest are miniscule
The first is exempt, the second only harms MAGA/ Make in Amreeka more than China
So effectively only the third category , which is 1.5% of Chinese exports has any meaningful impact on China
Where do you get these figures from?
Will be fun to see how this will get justified by the followers now
Smartphones & computers are only a fifth of China's total exports.

As for opportunities for India in this affair

US China exim.jpg
Items in blue are what we should poach from China.

Red are ones we need to make an effort long term to acquire.

That is what Piyush Goel means when he says once in a lifetime opportunity.

Export volume vs price over time.jpg

Interesting to see how even though trade volume increases post pandemic the actual value has decreased during this time

That 500 plane Boeing deal we mooted with the Americans some time ago just gained LEVERAGE

Great explanation as to why China can never win an economic war with the US but thanks to the idiot XJP they will certainly try to dig deeper

Over a decade ago I was chatting with the mod of the China section on the def board I'm on. He wasn't very excited about XJP succeeding Hu Jintao. Why? He wasn't that educated and they could have found someone better. XJP is the equivalent of a 7th std dropout. Couldn't continue his studies due to the domestic turmoil caused by Mao. So the street became his school. Some would say that's the best education you can get. Is it?

Prescient because you can chart China descent ever since he took office. Much more belligerent than earlier and arrogant for not much gain it would seem. Adopting maximalist positions (can't back down without losing face) that really only work with much weaker powers. They certainly don't work with us. How can they work with the US?
