Phew, thats the 4th WD drive that went kaput in less than a year of usage, 3 of them being Green and one being Blue.So much for data density, work on reliability as well guys......:@:@

I guess its more of user error when 4 drives go bad in less then a year. I have been using WD for past so many years (More then 3) and none have died on me. Infact the last HDD which died on me was the Seagate 500GB cause of the firmware issue and nothing else as far as i can remember.

Dont mind me asking but do you use these in a external cause or do you move your comp a lot or does your comp vibrate a lot. It can also be a PSU issue.

^I am really curious to know how poor or improper earthing can be a cause for defective hardware or hard disk in this case.

It can as well be a fact that he was unfortunate enough to receive the lemons out of a bad batch. Was this a 1.5TB WD 15EARS by any chance? A lot of drives from a similar batch has been turning out to be defective. It's best to stay away from them for the time being. Seagate OTOH seems to do well in this case. Minus the customer support.

The first drives were 2xWD 10EACS, a 640GB AAKS and now a 1TB 10EADS......3 of the replacement Seagates have been fine so far....though i can't say so abt the new 1.5TB SG that i got a week back.Showed a Yellow attribute right out of box but no damaged block so far in HDTune.and i keep the HDDs sometimes outside the case but mostly inside and the temps vary from 35-45 +/- 1 degree C.

Have to look into the PSU matter, its a 750W Real Power pro from CM.

I was thinking of getting the 1.5 Tb WD Green 64 MB buffer drive... now I am considering going for Seagate as non have failed on me so far.... 500 X 2, 160 X 2, 80 x 2... Touchwood

i see, all your replacement drives are fine..

did you buy all drives from the same source? it might just be improper handling done by your source.

lastly..

do you move the drive while it's running?

lastly..

is there any magnetic/electro-magnetic device closer to drives when they are in operating condition ?

these can cause serious damage without you knowing..

a small device like cell phone closer to those hdds lying outside is good enough to form electromagnetic disturbances.

The "lastly's" occurred twice but very true in real life

Just tried a WD Data Lifeguard Zero Fill and the bad sector is not there at the location it was before(between at around 783gb it was before)........will do a full scan now and lets see. :)
