Thinking of buying iPod Touch

Hi,

Until now I had this idea of having just one device for music, phone,email, internet,camera etc. But this approach isn't working as battery in my phone runs our fairly quickly.. so I am thinking of buying a second device( iPod Touch 32GB version) for other needs and keeping the phone only for phone & gprs use.

Now, I have few question:

1) Should I get the iPod Touch 4th Gen or Nano. whath are the option non-apple products in this range?

2) I see Touch has dual cameras, how good are they? Can they be used for taking casual photographs & videos and sharing them on facebook?

3) From what I understand, its a iPhone without a Phone. so does that mean every feature is same and only phone capabilities are missing?

4) Lastly, most important thing: Price!

And I see different prices for 32GB version:

Rs.19,900 - Apple Online:no:

Rs15,130 - InfiBeam

Rs. 14,399.00 - Ebay Deals of Week lowest quote till now

Where should I buy it? locally or online? what is the lowest price I can get(with Bill+warranty), any discounts available? student discount or something else?
 
Get it online, Apple warranty is via serial number. Rampage has a few deals ongoing in Hot Deals, might want to check with him.
 
Anybody using IPOD touch on regular Basis ?

I find that most of the IPODs being sold on the forum have been RMAed & then sold

As the warranty is only for 1 year, is the life of the IPOD touch very limited & if so any sense in buying a used IPOD?

What is the reason of so frequent RMAs in this item ?
 
@Gaurish Buy it online thought eBay, makes no difference since you have to register it on the Apple website anyway.

@shravank30 As per my experience the only need for RMA is when you drop in on the ground or damage it physically. Me or my friends who have iPod Touches never had any issue which couldnt be solved though a software update.

Here are the answers for your questions,

-Go for iPod Touch 4G only, as of now Nano 6G is available and its good as a watch and only PMP no other stuff like surfing can be done. Non-apple products includes SAMSUNG Galaxy Player (SOON)

-Yes iPod Touch 4G got dual camera, the front for Facetime and rear for general photography. The camera is just 0.7mp so still photos are not that good, but yes good for uploading on Facebook. It has got HD Video Recording, and yes its damn! cool.

-Yes, its an iPhone 4 without contract! -It has got all the features of iPhone excluding Calling + 3G Video Calling + GPRS + GPS + 5MP Camera. But is lot sleek and looks just awesome.

-I'll suggest you to get it online, iStore is selling 8GB for 15k - 32GB for 20k - 64GB for 26k. The ebay deal is the best and plus if you use any coupon you will get 1k discount.

I've 64GB version bought from USA, got it for 17.7k

^^ guys I'm also in the same dilemma as Gaurish, the question on my mind is why it is 14.5k for a 32G version whereas in stores all over it is 19.9k..!! Why? One more question, since it is retailing here at 14.5k, is it advisable to get it from US, the price difference would be 1k max..

Was in same confusion, Ditched Touch thing from mind..

32 GB is not enough for music.. going ahead with 160 GB Classic..

@OP, Think if you can manage with mere 32 Gig, as music is something which is ever increasing :)

Classic has a mechanical HDD inside it, as a general rule of thumb, portables should not have moving parts.I like flash based devices like iPod touch 32GB which can hold about 7,000songs which is around 40hours of music playback. so according to my usage pattern, its enough;)
