Storage Solutions This is what I call : The Hdd's revenge.

^yes of course i will....my current mobo supports raid so that's one job done. im going to migrate to another rig and make this one only for data storage. am never going to get the data back unless i find a pcb to try the swap test. if that works then great, if that doesn't then its years of stuff gone down, and a few years down the lane i don't want yet another occurrence of this. well yes i would need to 'spend' but i'm going to sit with a lot of happiness and peace.

not deviating away from the main topic of this thread, i will leave that to a new thread and pm's.

 still looking, pcb please :( anyone wanna sell ?

@thetechmind : go the amarbir way.

even if its the pcb issue he can solve it as he is expert.

freezing will only help if its the mechanical failure like head is jammed or like that, freezing helps declog that mechanism.

If you are sure that its pcb issues then freezing will not help.

If you hdd does not spin up at all while powering up the pc it will not get help from freezing.

take care while freezing that you really pack the hdd well into a new ziplock bag.

...

do it if you feel you can take the risk. i took the risk cause i felt like taking the risk. i rma'd it and got new disk.

why not try freezing?

get a drive to backup 1st, take the chance if the data is crucial.

there is nothing left to take a backup of :(

i checked that thread already, thats a double platter AFAIK. and the PCB is very different (previous generation) than the ones on the new 7200.11's.

Have been trying to PM amarbir abt this but his inbox is always full :( , amarbir if u read this , please clear ur inbox.

i found a shop still selling the 7200.11 320gig , should i buy it for the swap test ? ( if it doesn't work out , atleast i would know that the problem is mechanical then.)

And my OS HDD gave me a XMAS gift - Bloody died on me :( 500GB 7200.11 :( MERRY <SOB><SOB> XMAS ..............waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just curious, but how do guys who end up with dead HDD's treat their drives?

Frequently moving them around physically.
Aggressive power saving profiles.
Defragging a lot.
Frequently loading up lots of medium-large files at once.
Frequently loading very large files.
Frequently generating thumbnails for folders containing thousands of hi-res images.

My drive was a 7200.11 500gb :p It does not require all that to go bust. Seagate bundles it with a firmware for free which takes it down on its own :p.

Guys ,

Send These Drives To Me And i Will Get That Data Out On Another 500Gb And Send The Drives Back ,Mentioning Here Cos Many Of You Have Mentioned My Name ,I Hate Data Lost Of Anyone ,But 75% Of The Data I Retrieve Is P*** :p
