Very sad but I guess most of us knew it coming.

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Speaking at the MIT Business in Gaming conference today, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has predicted THQ would shutter in six month’s time.[/font]

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][background=transparent]According to Zelnick, the biggest mistake the firm made was with licensed properties, which he said cost companies more in the long run due to profit margins dropping over renegotiating the license every few years.[/background][/font]

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][background=transparent][background=transparent]“[Changing company] strategy didn’t work [for THQ] and the execution was bad. To put it another way: the food was no good and the portions were small.[/background][/background][/font]

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][background=transparent][background=transparent][background=transparent]“THQ won’t be around in six months.â€[/background][/background][/background][/font]

We will see through Darksiders II but Metro: Last Light is a big question mark right now. Hopefully 4A Games will find another publisher.[/background]

Hold on to your horses !!

“THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO,†THQ’s Australian PR arm wrote in a statement.

“As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids’ boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

Metro isn't a THQ owned IP. They have only published the first game. Even if THQ goes down, I'm sure there are plenty of publishers who would be willing to adopt 4A's sequel to Metro 2033. Besides, this is just way too much speculation.

THQ responds:

Take Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick made a bold accusation that THQ will be around in 6 month’s time. THQ has responded to this.

“Obviously, Mr. Zelnick’s perception of THQ is outdated and inaccurate. His comments are irresponsible and false. Perhaps he would be better off commenting on his own business.â€

and Zelnick apologizes:

"While discussing our strategy I spoke out of turn about someone else’s. It was inappropriate and I regret it."

Homefront 2 is in development, and i think internally so is Saints Rows 4, so closing, i don't think is an option.

THQ has been in deep shit ever since they started shuttering down on their biggest money spinner. No this was not one of the big name franchises they own, but the kids/casual games they made.

It's sad to see fantastic studios like Relic getting caught in this mess.

The optimist in me says the CEO is a fool and should be sacked. The pessimist in me says he told the truth and THQ is in damage control mode. They are a publicly owned company, something like this gets out and the share prices will go to red faster than you can finish Homefront

An alleged employee email that did the circuit a couple of months ago.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/25/alleged-former-thq-staffer-sends-furious-note-to-board-press/

Dear THQ Board,

I am an ex-employee at THQ. I saw the tweet-started headlines over the past week from an "industry expert." This expert is one who I and my friends and co-workers in the industry have never heard of after a long time in the field. I had been reading the various following articles and accounts and it generated sympathy for friends both recently laid off and currently still there. I thought it would be a good idea to send a note with their input. This note has honest facts and thoughts about THQ and the current problems there. Most of these facts are public knowledge and they have been confirmed by public records or can be confirmed by current and former THQ staff there both before and after my and their time.

Err, i think the thread title is a little misleading as its not the THQ CEO who is saying here that THQ will shut down in 6 months but the competitor CEO.. Just my 2 cents.

LOL thanks for that! Edited the title.

And here I was thinking THQ's CEO made that statement in the public with the employees defending it! Silly me.

Hehe, actually i was finding it a little funny that we were going off on a tangent based the first post.

Yeah, isnt it like that ??

Nope. They never officially said that it's gonna be that way. But it sure would be awesome if that is the case. However, it will also be a challenge for them to create 4 different characters. Death does seem to be different from War. But it will take a lot of creative minds to make 2 more Horsemen who are very different from these 2, otherwise the game will feel repetitive to earlier ones.
