Why was this thread closed when the OP clearly mentions he has a legit key. Is it illegal to download a copy from the net of the latest version of a particular edition and you a legit key ?
For eg. I know someone who purchase Windows XP SP1 but recently he downloaded Windows XP SP3(He did not want to go through the trouble of installing SP2 and then SP3) and used his legit key and it works fine also Windows Update works like a charm.

Since you cant download Windows ISO files from the MSFT site, any other source would be grey area. Besides every Tom, Dick & Harry will start a piracy thread they have the original disc but scratched etc....

His best bet is to write an e-mail to Microsoft for a solution...

Legit keys can be obtained from anywhere

That doesn't give the OP the right to start piracy threads by following his own sense of justice

Windows 7 , XP , Vista iso's downloaded anywhere other than MSFT is illegal and pirated

This conversation is meaningless

MODS please close this thread

so what ur suppose to do when u'hve got a legit key but no legit cd:?(and now please do not say that my nick is microsoft ..so i must know that:P)

If your OS is an OEM preinstalled copy, then you need to get in touch with the notebook manufacturer. Acer in your case.

From what I remember reading, MS sends media for retail copies of its OS'es as long as the customer pays for shipping.

I have been sailing in boat. I had Lenovo Laptop with Licensed copy of Vista preinstalled. for some reason, I had to format my Laptop. now Lenovo does not bundle Vista DVD, its their damn policy.

I contacted Microsoft regarding this, they asked me to contact Lenovo. Lenovo asked Rs500/- for that DVD, which I felt is not justified. so Downloaded it without paying a penny.

Sometimes it feels Original OS users are victimized:|

i contacted acer ...

they say there is a hidden partition in my system which will help in recovering my OS-Answer

and if i need a any cd to do that then i'll have to buy it from acer:@:@

nut's:@and they expect us to do all that legally:P

IMHO they are completely correct in this.
OEM versions of OS'es are heavily subsidized for the end user as compared to buying a retail copy. I really don't see anything wrong in them asking you to pay up for media in this case.

Well, not every PC manufacturer charges for DVD, like Dell bundles these DVD by default. other OEMs try to save a few bucks by not bundling the media and charge high price for them later.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with using other sources(Friend's DVD,downloads etc) and installing it via your Own Key.

so forum should allow such friendly exchange

As a matter of fact,

OEM licenses is literally forced upon the users. they have no choice and he has asked to buy OS bundled along with PC/Laptops even if user may not want it.MS archives most of its sales via this method. so in reality there is no subsidy but monopoly:@

i strongly believe in this...i mean sounds nothin illegal to me to use any cd +legit key

many companies already make efforts to take out maximum money out of us...and if

this^^is also illegal..then...

^^ There are always options if you look hard enough

it is not the case now, most manufacturers are now offering laptopns without any OS or with linux.
you can visit your nearest shop and ask if he can get you any certain laptop model without OS..prices will be low..!!

Just to clarify things, I was trying to say exactly the thing that madnav has said in this post above mine.

I was not implying to the contrary.

So in the end the basic thing is its not known whether this legally allowed or not.

I thought of this since dealers on the site have emailed keys for Kaspersky(to save shipping cost) and users have downloaded the Kaspersky from the net and then used the key. So why is this not illegal ?

Is not the genuine license key what we pay for ?
