All OS [Tip]Turn off WhatsApp without turning off the internet

Proxy and dns are different.

Also just point to a local address that your router handles. 192.168.x.x in most cases. And then reserve that address to random MAC address so that dhcp doesn’t assign it.

This will work for both mobile data and wifi.
His question was, what if the ip address resolves to some random chinese isp or ip address. And that was my answer.
I know proxy and dns are different but you know even a proxy has its own dns server to resolve internet queries? If I have a proxy with address 10.100.10.100 for example and my proxy has its own dns server at 10.100.10.1, then if someone uses my proxy server to connect to the internet he will get dns queries answered from my server. My proxy will act like a middle man.

Of course I know.

Your answer mentioned setting fake dns which is different than proxy. Just pointing it.

I actually tried this today and this works. I set the proxy address to 127.00.1 or something like that. I tried messaging from another phone and I did not receive the message. Every time I sent a message to my phone, I received the "Whatsapp may have received new messages" thing but it did not come through. Thanks for the tip.

I’ve been using this trick for a while, so I thought of sharing it with you. Did you know you can temporarily turn off WhatsApp on your phone? Just follow these steps:
  1. Open the WhatsApp app on your phone.
  2. Tap the three dots (...) in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
  3. Navigate to Storage and Data.
  4. Tap on Proxy.
  5. Enter any random proxy address, for example, 123.123.123.123, and save it.
  6. Enable the Use Proxy option.
  7. To Re-enable the WhatsApp just turn off Use Proxy button.
That’s it! Now you can enjoy browsing the internet without being interrupted by WhatsApp messages. I hope you find this tip helpful!
Another quick shortcut would simply be going to app settings, and FORCE STOP.
Enough for the app to not wake up, as long as you don't open it.

This is useful if you don't wanna disable the internet on your phone, and yet make it appear to others that you are offline.
But slightly risky - if you accidentally open the app, you are caught xD
