OK, So is this what you want me to do??

1) Buy a pendrive.

2) Perform the tests you have mentioned in the post.

3) Find out that the drive has no writing on the head, the slider color is blur and sliding out is not smooth, plastic is lighter and there is no thin plastic blister, the disk tilts downwards when plugged in, the drive is named as 'Removable Drive' and the transfer rate is slow at the beginning and then suddenly rises.

4) Realize that I have a fake pendrive. :@

5) Cry over my 'bad luck' and start over from Step 1 till I finally find a Genuine Kingston pendrive!!

Really?? Is that what you expect us to do?? :S
or u could buy froma genuine seller for a few bucks more, thats what he's trying to imply.

^^ And how do you know that a seller is genuine?? What do you do when you buy it on ebay?? Read through my other posts.

Do you think that I am not already aware of what you are suggesting? It's just that once I experienced an urgency to get some data from someone's netbook and noticed that my drive is not with me. I hopped to a Stationery store and got a 2GB Drive. Luckily, it was a genuine one and in any case, it was a Transcend.

All I want to know is what Kingston can do for helping prospective customers identify the original drives prior to purchase. All the remaining B.S. about buying from a reputed seller and stuff like that is what the buyer is gonna do in any case. It's common sense and it is also common sense if one just opts for some other brand that doesn't have counterfeits floating in the market.

:)

This was before monsoons, not sure about now.

There was this guy outside Bandra station under the hot sun. Bunch of transcend and Kingston 32/64gig drives. I know its fake and he knows that I know its a fake. He said that you can test it yourself in his laptop and see if the document is opening from his notebook.

Cassette world, lamington road was under the suspicion (according to a friend) they are selling duplicate flash drives as well. Cassette world is a well established store in the main road of lamington road- not inside a buidling, not in some 1st/3rd floor or sandwiched between few buildings. People will see that its a properly established store, they will go in and buy a flash drive with an eye closed. That's as good as "Authorised dealer" for the normal buyers.

You're seeing this bulk discount site giving sandisk drives as throwaway prices as well. A company called strontium is slowly rising all of a sudden. A-DATA stepped in the market, they also have a Mumbai office now((When I asked them about evaluation samples they said "What can you do for A-DATA??" I was like "lulwut???? Pedobear???")). Competition is building up, and such problems need to be eliminated, especially if you are making a good product.

^^ I have seen this guy too. He has his own notebook that he uses to test the drive for the prospective customer. Now, while we can easily know that it is a fake just from the fact that this person sells them on the streets, the same is not the case with everyone. And like you said, I have heard about quiet a few shops at Lammy that stock both the genuine and fake drives. You just have to be smart enough to know the difference else, they can take you for a ride. Ask them for a bill and they'll immediately quote a different price and say that it is due to the VAT. Now, how can VAT increase the price by 50% (or more) I dunno. :P

I have noob friends who visit Lammy from Navi Mumbai for PC purchases, now imagine one of them getting a fake. Even to raise a dispute with the seller, they have to travel a hell of a long distance. :(

Dear nehaladsul,

Thanks for your information. Would you please help to provide the names of these shops which both have genuine and fake Kingston products? Like Sorcerer said, is Cassette world the one of them? We will investigate the source of these stores to figure out what happened.

Thanks again for your valuable information!

Cheers,
Kingston Techology

IMO It is better to go with drives that have no known fakes as of now like Strontium, sandisk etc etc rather than being skeptical and buying something else. At least i would do the same.

^^ Yes. Cassette World is one of the names I have heard. That apart, I have also heard about Othree Systems and Solutions doing similar business.

Will get back with more names if and when I can.

Prevention beats the cure.

Get them from one of the below undersigned.

Kingston Technology Company - Where To Buy - India

Else order it from ABGB or a reputed dealer. When one knows that umpteen fakes/knock-offs are being sold they have to be self vigilant. No point blaming the manufacturer for piracy, it is not their fault. It is the consumer which causes piracy to be extensively existent.

Dear nehaladsul,

According to our investigation, these shops are well established shops and have been doing business since many years at Lamington road, and they are not selling any Fake Kingston parts.

If you have any further information about this, please feel free to let us know, thanks!

Dear All,

Thanks for your great opinions. To prevent our customers from counterfeit products, Kingston keeps providing new generation products and new package to fight. For example, The USB drive in the photo is DT100 and new DT100G2 has been launched to replace it. Since the appearance is easy to be immitated, the best way to prevent fake products is still to purchase all Kingston products from our official distributors, retailers or resellers. Thanks again for your great support!

Cheers,

Kingston Technology
wouldn't it be just a matter of time before the counterfeit manufacturers start making up their own product line under kingston name.. giving the customer no chance to verify against the original one? there wont be any original one..
