ok my engg entrance marks are approachin fast..and i jus got this booklet with all the colls listed..233 engg colls :S TN is a crazy place..so since there are lost of ppl here from chennai and who have gone through this lousy procedure (70% reservation :@ )..I NEED HELP..info on colls in tamil nadu which are good ..and of course the ones i must stay away from...etc etc..

and i guess its admission season for lots and lots of 12th standard blokes like myself on TE..so guys /gals from all states are welcome to post for advice on this thread from the great brains :P in TE!

ps if the mods think this thread isnt supposed to be on TE they can remove it
but help would be appreciated :)

You still havnt got yer tnpcee marks.. and i guess you'll get a good cut-off.. normally, i would say wait for your cut-off and see, but it seems (according to surveys) that many havnt done the stateboards well, so the chances of getting into a good coll are high even with a slightly lower cut-off (as compared to previous years)..

Oh and yer "caste" depends too.. :p
you OC right? tsk..tsk..

and i've already suggested some colls to you over yahoo i believe ;)
Also name yer priorities here..
Preferred Course
Hostel/Dayscholar(Coimbatore)
Wanna study more after B.E./Wanna good Placement.. (coz some colleges do help out in futher studies i believe)

Just DON'T join my college :(

ok vince thanks for that...would be cool if u posted those colls u mentioned again ..coz i forget em all the time :D ..my cut off will be clear on jun 4th

dayscholar preferred.. though i dont have any specific problemos with hostel

placement necessary..though i intend on doing stuff after coll..need some cash so placement necessary

i would say its better to start looking after your entrance results are out, but anyway, here are the ones i would suggest :

1. anna universtity and its constitutent colleges ( CEG, MIT, ACTech) - obviously among the best colleges in TN. almost all the departments are good but you will need a good cutoff though - more than 295 i guess

2. PSG,SSN - very good colleges. infrastructure, faculty etc are pretty decent. PSG would be my second choice after anna univ

3. MEPCO, SVCE, Thiyagaraja, GCT, CIT - the best among the rest. among these, only SVCE is in chennai. GCT and CIT are in coimbatore and are govt colleges. not bad though. MEPCO is more like a school (not much freedom) but education and placement are pretty good..

although im not in engg stream ;) i think these would be the obvious choice for many. you will be in a better position to choose after getting your cut-off marks. so hopefully ppl here can help after you post your marks ;)

i guess i know scenario in coimbatore pretty well coz i live here! :D ..but thanks for the info on SSN and MEPCO SVCE etc...

colleges i'd recommend are
1,2,3:Agree with Checksum..
4: Sairam, Crescent, Velammal, Rmk, Hindustan, St.Joseph, Panimalar, KCG

I think that u can move SVCE to 2. Its also a very good college... There would be a lot of people in TE who have completed/doing Engg...

ask Bosky for details abt SVCE...
I did my Engg from SSN... for any details u can contact me...
Also u can contact Vince, Grease_monk...

hmm yup, i guess SVCE is also very good...

and just a thought. if you really want to live the "college life" stay away from the likes of sathyabama, panimalar etc.. its pretty much a prison out there
