Ok ... i've 20k's in my hand right now ... a bit more (around 1-2k's might be added , but very tight budget) .. i've decided to upgrade my GPU ... i'd like to make it clear that i'm getting another PC next year around March , and that'll be probably based on E6400 .. so i'll stick to the 3500+ (oc'ed to 3800+) for now ...

Now i went out today , and got some price estimates ... i'm getting a 7900GT XXX Edition just within the budget , and i'm really looking forward to it ... So what do u guys think ??

I mean .. the 7900GT/GTX has been quite a unpredictable series (some stupid nvidia crap) ... does that problem still persist ?? Or has it been rectified in the newer revisions ??? coz i really don't wanna sit back and wait for the faulty card to be replaced .,, takes darn long in kolkatta ..

C'mon guys ... some suggestions plz. ... my budget is really tight ... and this is the best buy for that budget i think ...

Well ... my dad won't agree to that .. he has no probs with me selling .. but he doesn't like me buying such things ... and i don't wanna lose my 20k's this easy ..

Anyway ... does anyone know whether the newer 7900GT's still have the auto underclocking and artifacting problem or not ??

^^If you are buying 7900gt then don't buy factory overclocked or xxx versions. They are the ones that have been malfunctioning in greater nos.

Well .. i'm aware of that fact ... but i did read somewhere that the newer revisions do not face a similar problem .. and so i was wondering if this would be a good choice ... or else i'd have to settle for a 7900GT EE card ... ouch ...

I've got a huge budget then .. i think i might get a dx10 then .. coz i need to build a complete new pc then (will give my current one to dad) ...

If you can, wait it out for G80/R600. But if you absolutely need to buy a card, you might want to avoid the 7900GT and go with the 7950GT. It's based on the same GPU but I'm thinking it might be an updated GPU which has all the previous corruption issues ironed out. Get the one with the HSF and not the passive cooler version. It's around 20k.

I have a 7900GS which was released with the 7950GT and no issues so far.

Hmm ... i see u have the 7900GS "XXX" edition ?? did XFX really release one ?? Or just the Extreme Edition ??? Hmm .. making me think now ... hope my dad pays up a little more ... i might be able to squeze in a 7950GT , or even better a X1900XT .. :(

Btw ... if i do manage a X1900XT , how much bottleneck am i looking at with the CPU ... ???

^^ In my sig, XXX means extreme edition.

I checked out XFX's site .. and they do have a 7900GS XXX edition .. ... clocked at 600/1600 :O ... besides the standard and EE ..

Anyway .. got some extra cash .. now its on between the 7950GT and the X1900XT ... i'll have to make a decision by this weekend when i place the order .. plz. help ...

Whoa!!! Hehe, I checked it out, you are correct! There is an XXX edition. It's quite a coincidence because I have my 7900GS oced to 600/1600. So, technically it fits to be an XXX although it is only EE. Better change my sig... ;)

I would go with the X1900XT anyday if I had the cash. If you have the option, don't think twice and go with ATI.

Sapphire 1900XT (512 MB) is for 24.9k. If you have enough cash, then go for that without a doubt. You have a more than good enough CPU in my opinion.

The problem with 7950GT is that XFX only has the passive cooled version of it. Those Passive coolers do not work well for Indian conditions. They require proper ventilation and good room temperatures to dissipate heat generated by High end cards. What ever you get, see that it has active cooling.

Well .. they have both passive and active cooled versions .. Also , i already have a VCool , so i think it'll help even with the passive cooled card .... infact better .. About casing , PlusView II properly ventilated in an AC room ,.. :D ..

Also ... can anyone in kolkatta direct me to a shop where i can get a X1900XT for reasonable price ... my budget is very tight ... as i stretched it from 16k's to 24k's u see ...

Also .. how are MSI or Asus X1900XT's ??? How about pricing .. i checked out the shop i buy from , and they're offering the XFX 7950GT for under 23k's ... the 512 MB one , and the offer is quite mouth watering ...

@ imoen : ... did u bench yet ?? some scores will really help me take a decision ...

Hey where did u get ur price for the 7900gt in cal? good to see someone frm cal here :P

I think the best bet u have to get the x1900xt is to contact the distributors directly like i think for asus/xfx rashi is there theyll guide u pretty well ..

rashi's at bentick street i think...or just get it shipped frm somewhere else...

23k is bit too much for the 7950GT 512 MB. The price here for XFX XXX pre-oc version with passive cooler is 20.5k. include taxes and it comes to around 21k. if you can stretch up to 23k then stretch it a bit more and get the Sapphire 1900XT for 24.9k. The distributor Aditya is in calcutta and you should be able to get hands on it a bit cheaper. GeCube 1900XT is 23k (excluding including taxes). But I would recommend that you stick with sapphire.
