alright.. i'm an old fan of the TR series who gave up after part 3 as i found TR:TLR and the rest shitty. in a general convo on irc, the topic of Tomb Raider : Legend came up so i decided to download the demo first to see if it was worth getting the full game (which i was very skeptical of after Chronicles and AOD). i must say i was surprised. the demo wasn't anything extra-ordinary but the way i had to deal with a few situations in that level were pretty cool. i mean, it was the same TR style thing but it took a little more precision and thinking on my part to do them.

there was this area in the level where i had to get some wooden cages onto a higher level with the help of a huge see-saw like structure. i placed a cage on one end and jumped onto the other end of the see-saw off another wooden cage nearby. the first cage almost made it onto the higher level but to actually get it across i had to get onto the higher level myself first and jump on the see-saw from there. it wasn't too much of a puzzle but the little extra work i had to do made me wonder if there were harder things to do in the full version.

has anybody played the full version so far? thoughts?

finally, the game looks great. the soft lighting scheme and the environment which have always been an essential part of TR gfx look really nice when viewed at regular playing distances. its a different story when you get close though :/ here are a couple of screenshots i took while running around the level. all settings maxed out with AA at 8S (to see if it made any difference from ingame 4xAA but i couldn't really notice) and AF at 16 forced in the drivers. it was really smooth to play too.

bleh, if clicking doesn't work you'll have to copy paste. sorry.. my host is like that.

off-topic: is there a spoiler tag for posts?

yep i'm playing the full version right now and i'm having a blast. just got past bolivia, peru and japan and i'm loving every moment of it. it suffers from the fact that its a console port but it brings back that 'good old tomb raider' feeling of solving puzzles like the one you mentioned.

hey rio, i just feel bad when i see things going south there.

anyway i just got done playing tomb raider, completed 44% of the game and its just great fun. you guys should defintely give it a shot.

the controls aren't that good for users playing with mouse+kb. along with standard wsad, the insert/home/end etc keys are mapped to some pretty important functions... a lot of times you have to let go of the mouse while playing (especially in the middle of gunfights) which is quite poorly done.

i got stuck at the kazakhstan bossfight btw. anyone who has the full game care to explain how to get past it?

lol wtf, i shouldn't have to buy a gamepad to play a PC game. the controls from the old tomb raider games were straightforward and good enough. i dont know why they had to change them. its confusing when they key to press to move in a direction depends on the camera angle.

params is console-junkie, so not surprised by his recommendation :D A friggin PC game should be playable with PC peripherals, and if it doesn't, it won't do as well as it could have.

People still play videogames with typewriters?
Mouse+Gamepad combo for the win.
Better than with calculators. Shooters, strategy, rpg's or oblivion with a gamepad? 'nuff said.

What happened to the whole 'play games the way they were meant to be played' funda? ;)
Who said gamepads only belong on consoles, that's like saying joysticks and steering wheels only belong on arcade machines.

The old scheme sucked lol. First you had to face the desired direction, and then move ahead using another key.
Now the camera auto-sets itself for the best perspective leaving the user to just control the movement. PoP style.

^yea but tomb raider players like me got used to it. this camera auto set didn't work that well in the demo that i played. was much better in PoP. they should have atleast included an option to switch to the old style.

i personally found the camera settings to be much better than pop. i can't remember how many times pop gave me a fixed camera and i had to modify my movement directions to get through it. at least this feels like a proper 3rd person camera scheme which can be played easily with the mouse/kb. pop was actually telling you to play the game with a controller.

i guess its better in the full game then.. or maybe i didnt spend enough time with it since i just played one level in the demo.

Uhmmm... whatever your first point is dude, it seems out of context here. Secondly, we're allowed to have different opinions - you think joysticks and wheels belong on PC's, I don't.

Flight-sims, racing games and platformers aren't 'meant' to be played on keyboards.

RPG, FPS, RTS and lots of others are, only difference is these games are mostly unplayable on joysticks/gamepads/wheels, where as the flightsims, race sims are easily playable on KBs :P
