hello everybody, I decided to get asus k8v-mx. I will be at chennai tomorrow morning to buy stuffs. But now I got little confused.

I came across the specs of gigabyte k8vm800m based on the same chipset. But in its specs, it mention about HyperTransport and details about on board vga (IGP unichrome).

But in asus k8v-mx specs the hyper transport is not mentioned anywhere and no details about the on board vga chip or its features. Also it shows the front side bus as 1600MT/s. what does it mean?

I am going to get sempron 64 2500 (stepping e6) and ddr400. How can the hyper transport helps me? Help mew to make the final decision.

Thanks you all.

The Asus K8V-MX is based on the same K8M800 chipset as the Gigabyte K8VM800M. Specifications will be identical for both - i.e. both the onboard Unichrome IGP and HyperTransport exist on both boards. Friends of mine had bad experiences with the Gigabyte K8V800M board, hence I would recommend the Asus board.

Hypertransport is what the AMD uses as its FrontSide Bus. Hence the two terms are used interchangeably - the Asus K8V-MX product page refers to the HyperTransport as FrontSide Bus, same thing!

The HyperTransport bus(or FrontSide Bus) on AMD Socket 754 system runs at 800Mhz(1600Mhz DDR). MT/s means Million Transfers per Second. Manufacturers specify the HyperTransport bus speed in either DDR Mhz or MT/s, i.e. 1600Mhz DDR = 1600 MT/s

You dont have to worry much about this specification since all Socket 754 boards have a HyperTransport bus speed of 1600 MT/s , the value does not change from board to board.
