Compared to Google, MS or Yahoo Apple has done a lot less M&A.

Apple spends very little on R&D. Most of their tech is not made in house. Its obtained though acquisitions most of which are also cheap. So it should obviously not figure in the list. Apples R&D spending was around $800m last year and its increasing to $1billon this year. that's still merely a 1/5th of the lowest positioned company on that list.
