Top Five Most Overrated Industry People
Talented? Of course. Successful? Most definitely. As good as you think? Eh.

Gamedaily has a article on the most overrated people of the gaming industry. Gamedaily has voted for the following people.....

#5 - Koji Igarashi - Of castlevania fame.
#4 - David Jaffe - God of War designer.
#3 - Hideo Kojima - needs to intro.
#2 - Shigeru Miyamoto - everything to do with ninty.
#1 - Reggie Fils-Aime - Ninty of USA CEO.
Imho Ken Kutaragi and American McGee(gets a honourable mention) should have made it to the list.........

What no Peter Molyneux?

And IMHO Miyamoto really hasn't done squat since the 2d days. As much as I love Zelda that franchise is as predicatable as the next FIFA 2xxx title from EA.

Hideo Kojima is a freaking genius though, no way is he over rated.
 
That is the shittiest list I've ever seen involving gaming figureheads. They slam Castlevania creator because he hasn't successfully translated the series from 2D to 3D. Like that even matters. Castlevania has done great and continues to do very well on the handheld front.

David Jaffe makes a bit of sense considering that the GOW series has been hyped to MGS levels.

They put Kojima on that list because they have a problem with the MGS series itself? The stuff that they nitpick on about what's wrong with the series is pathetic. Kojima really needs to be on that list because of all the rumours of MGS4 possibly going multi-platform and all the attention that Kojima is getting as a result of that.

Miyamoto making that list really pisses me off. He was supposed to retire a long while back, but he continued to remain with the company. Producing and overlooking pretty much every game that's been released on the GC, DS and Wii. He was responsible for Pikmin. easily, the best game on the GC but went overlooked by most idiots simply because it wasn't Zelda or Mario. The exact same reasons that these idiots are using to find fault with Shiggy.

Reggie makes sense. He's become incredibly popular in the US mostly because he's very outspoken and as such, has become a bit of a celebrity. I actually wish there were more people like him in the industry. Still, I think there are a bunch of other people who deserved to make it to first.

He isn't overrated, just over-ambitious.
It helps if you don't subscribe to his pre-release hype, if you don't want to be let down by the final product which is still heads above the rest.
 
All this love for Kojima is stupid. Loving a guy for just a single gaming series is really stupid. Heck, Justifying a console purchase(a very costly console at that!!!) over just one game is the stupidest thing ever!!!
 
^ what makes you say that? Do you not agree that its the games that play a major part in defining a console?

The first thing that comes to my mind when someone says XBox is Halo. The first thing that comes to my mind when someone says PlayStation is Metal Gear Solid.

And Kojima isn't only known for MGS. I'm a huge fan of the Zone of The Enders series too which he produced (see avatar/sig).

Besides,I'm not saying that he's the best guy in the gaming industry. But he most DEFINITELY isn't over-rated.
 
Yeah! Games being the key word. Defining a console by just one game or a bunch of games is stupid. Especially when there are tons of other great games on every console.

Thats a contradictory statement.

Besides,what are you suggesting? Every gamer out there should buy all the major consoles? Keep in mind that not everyone has an unlimited budget and most Indians may not be able to afford all three. As for me,my parents would refuse to buy me more than one console.

Anyway,sorry for going off-topic.
 
No. I meant that every console has plenty of great games on them besides the ones people love toting as being the only game that defines the console. I certainly was not saying that everyone should buy every console out there.
 
Basically, they serve as mascots. Halo3 makes X360 unique, like a mascot. MGS does this for Playstation.

But since Konami is third party, I really think Sony should change their mascot to Kratos (God Of War)
 
They do not serve as mascots. Unlike Sega and Nintendo, Sony and MS did not hit the world stage as console manufacturers. They've been doing things long before they entered the gaming business and they didn't need a mascot back then and they don't need it now. A mascot serves as representing a company as a whole which would be awkward since MS and Sony do things besides gaming.
