Hi all,
I came to know from this forum discussions, there are Wifi routers/modems which allow to download torrents directly to a USB HDD. How is it possible since the torrent downloader applications normally need PC to install and run? Or how can we see the progress of upload and download ratios of the same in a router?
Is it possible to control individual torrents speed in this type of settings? plese enlighten me..
regards,
Anand

Yes, Using with Asus N13U B1 - Download 6 torrents a time.. Runs super smooth at 200 Kbps.. NO need for PC. Just plug in USB at the back of router.

Only problem is - Cant see seeders details, Cant see how much is uploading.. Very limited functionality in software.

Wish they have similar interface to that of Utorrent.

Is it 200 kbps or KBPs?

my connection is 1Mbps.

And how do we do the initial setup in the router? Is there any interface page to do that from PC?

BTW,what will happen if net got disconnected ?

Will it be restored automatically or have to use PC to connect the net again ?

And what about power cut ?

Saw after power cut bit torrent client always check torrent and cpu does high.

So,the router has so much power to handle that situation ???.....

Please someone reply about this.....:S

^i guess the cpu usage going high is because the torrent program in the router checks all the files,if they are intact and all?

U have to configure your DSL modem such that its always on.... and needs no dialer to connect. Then whenever the modem and router are on it will connect automatically to the net. Its best for unlimited plans. Biggest benefit is the PC need not be on during these downloads which saves a hell lot of power and also increases the PC's life. these routers consume around 8-10 watts only as compared to 300watts(min) of the CPU :D
I have a ASUS 500GP V2 on which I have installed Tomato firmware.

yeah there are a number of router options available. not just routers for that matter of fact. i, for one, am using a much more versatile contraption to this effect and more. there are a number of threads here which u can go through for further details and then select what works best for you. basic knowledge of linux will be handy.

as rightly pointed out, the modem needs to be set to pppoe mode so that net is in an always on mode. incase of a power cut, when power resumes, the torrent resumes from the point it was left at. the hash check of the torrent is the same like the one on pc. just that the time taken for hash checking depends upon the processing power of the router/mediaplayer etc u choose...

So "pppoe mode" is also applicable for USB 3G modems ?

When I had BB connection I saw that after power cut uTorrent used to check for hash or what ever.

But,then my dual core intel e2180 cpu goes up to at peak.

But,the router has very low power compare to any PC.

BTW,any one faced this kind of problem(power cut) ?

In Kolkata power cut is common thing.....

@Praks

How much did the router cost i'm very much interested in getting one but confused which one to get

Go for ASUS RT-N13U with tomotto torrent firmware, not sure that DDWRT will work on this.

Anyone have tried with DDRWT ?
