Torrent Issue

I recently upgraded my connection to 786kbs and also recently started using torrents (RS has always been the preferred download way). For quite some time my download speed hovered arnd 90-92kbs with uploads arnd 70-72 kbps.

But for 2-3 days now the situation has reversed with downloads never crossing high 50's. Downloads speed is lower than the upload speed. Is this normal? There are times when my downloads are half stuck cause of no download but heavy upload speeds and my ratio being 3 -4 and it is getting maddening. Any ideas what I need to do to correct it?

i had the same problem, but i just waited it out and then it went back to normal. idk i think its something to do with the modem.

That too can be the case. Apart from that, try limiting your upload speeds and upload slots if you are downloading from a public tracker. Sometimes, more peers connected for uploading can hamper download speeds greatly

In uTorrent go to tools>preferences, go to bandwidth section. there you will find a setting named global maximum upload rate. There put any value which would be satisfactory to you. too much upload restricts download speeds. try different values till your targeted download speed is attained.

Thanks guys. Found out the issue was related to my "Half open connections" settings on XP. The max connections allowed by default is 10 and in order to get max out of my connection speed I had increased it to 50. After much trial and error , found out the best for my connection was 30.
