So...

I just joined the 'private tracker' world as a noob. :) Now I would obviously want to seed a large amount of files from my netbook -- which would be the primary DL machine ~24x7 + data host for 99% of my DLs. My netbook only has around 120GB free space. How can I expand this. Options I could think off -- for a discrete 1 TB expansion

1. External HDD using USB.

2. SATA HDD using a SATA-USB adapter (available on ebay.in).

I will point the torrent client directories to the external HDD. Now the question is, does it affect the DL/UL speeds since the interface is external. I have a 1 mbps connection with no FUP. Any one tried this, and which of the above 2 is better. Option one seems easier and read-to-go. Any pro/cons. Could purchase suggestions for 1 or 2.

Thanks........! :)

120GB is sufficient space. You can download the files to one of the partitions on your 120GB drive. Periodically transfer the data to an external drive.

BTW, I don't think that direct d/l to an external drive would make it slow either.

DL/UL speeds won't be affected at all. I do the same thing except I use an external eSATA drive. And I use a full fledged desktop :P.

no there will be no effect mate.i do this all the time and it does not effect the speed of the downloads.

It does not have any effect on download especially considering we dont have a 1Gbps Internet connection otherwise we would have issues.

Nope until your ISP's speeds exceed the bandwidth of the USB which may begin throttling the write speeds to the drive. :P

I'd definitely vouch for the external drive since it is easier for you to carry your data on-the-go.

@ all the Proponents:

Be it USB external drive also..?

A couple of free-leech packs and some HD movies will choke it fast...!

^^ yea, it will not affect at all coz the data transfer speed between the system is faster then ur internet bandwidth. If your Internet speed is higher then the data transfer within the system, then its a different thing.
