HI,

I have an old Toshiba Satellite A45-S150 laptop. Recently the OS got corrupted and the DVD-RW drive does not work. Replacing the drive is not an option at the moment so I tried booting it using the recovery media from an external USB disk drive. Turns out, the laptop would not recongnize the external drive at boot-up but will pick it up once in Windows. Also, there is no option of USB in the BIOS boot sequence. A little searching on Google revealed that I need a BIOS update in order to enable a boot from an external drive.

Now I have been on the Toshiba website and the only BIOS update that they have is to include support for not HTT processors. There are no other options available and Toshiba Tech support has been non-responsive even after countless emails. This laptop was bought from the US so Toshiba India people have no knowledge on the particular model at all.

Does anyone here know how I can update the BIOS in order to enable boot from USB? Is there any other way apart from the BIOS update, which I can use to format the HDD and reinstall the OS? I am currently on XP SP3 and would like to retain XP and not upgrade.

Any help in the matter would be appreciated.

Thanks.
