Doesnt work with homekit. I tried all possibilities including an RTSP stream, which shows in very low quality and doesnt have video recording through homekit
i had these for more than 6 months and theres no option to add to the homekit. I don’t remember seeing any homekit qr code on the back of the camera. Kasa stuffs works with homekit and other tapo series works too. Tp-link like to shovel/downgrade for indians. If you mean this specific model, the no I don’t have it. I have other cameras that I’ve added to HomeKit. There two ways either in the HomeKit app where you scan a qr code/enter a 8 digit number or via the Tapo app where you go in the camera and there would be an option to add to HomeKit.
The manual here suggests option 2 - https://static.tp-link.com/upload/manual/2024/202404/20240426/1910013578_Tapo App User Guide (for Tapo Indoor Outdoor Cameras)_V1.pdf
You will need a HomeKit hub ( i.e. Apple TV) to view it remotely
C225 has various versions. Though the Amazon listing claims homekit support, the box I received has no logo of apple homekit nor any mention of the same. Only then i realized only the latest version of this model has the compatibility and not sold in Indiai had these for more than 6 months and theres no option to add to the homekit. Its not just with the tapo sub-brands, tp-link stuffs have multiple versions and the only way if you buying online is like playing lottery.C225 has various versions. Thats a different path altogether.Oh damn, that’s awfully sneaky of them to advertise on their product page and only supporting HomeKit on the latest version of this camera.
In case you still want HomeKit support, I would recommend using homebridge or HA or scrypted
it works very poorly with homebridge. we can enable rtsp stream within tapo app and link it to homebridge and then to homekit. the experience is very poor that i returned the item back. very low image quality, no features available like camera pan and no video recordingOh damn, that’s awfully sneaky of them to advertise on their product page and only supporting HomeKit on the latest version of this camera.

Hmm. The experience also matters on what drive homebridge was running. A RPi4 for example would be too under powered. I’ve been using with Scrypted (https://docs.scrypted.app/) with 10+ Tapo cameras hosted on a shared i3 plex server. It’s been very smooth for me overall.it works very poorly with homebridge. we can enable rtsp stream within tapo app and link it to homebridge and then to homekit. the experience is very poor that i returned the item back. very low image quality, no features available like camera pan and no video recording
