This site helps you to track almost each and every train running in India at real time.
It shows you the official status of the train at the last station it stopped.
The site also has some mobile apps and other features like searching by train/station.

Many of these features were available previously like tracking the running status of trains by train no or station or stations en route, but it was never to visually appealing and at this wide level.
Also it tells you how many trains it is tracking. What is the percentage of trains which are on time and how many delayed.

It easily gives you an idea of how densely crowded a particular region in India when it comes to no of trains running in that area.
No points for guessing this one. WB has the most no of trains running at any given time.

If this is what the railways can do without increasing the fares for such a long time and by computerizing each and every station; Imagine what they can do if they are allowed to charge competitive fares and given more budget allocations.
Not to forget the large no of travelers traveling without tickets.

Good to hear this.
Earlier, Indian Railways had partnered with IIT Kanpur for Satellite Imaging for Rail Navigation (Simran) which was meant to help passengers know the exact position of a train via Global Position System and digital mapping of stations.. Sadly it was reportedly shutdown due to lack of funds.

I think places where delayed trains are the norms, the tracking system is more useful for passengers to make effective contingency plans/scheduling. Not to mention, it might prove handy to prevent mishaps as well.

My cousins and friends back at my native place are finding such services very useful. Coz they go to other nearby cities for purchasing for their businesses and such services helps them to utilize their time properly and plan accordingly and reach station on time. The 131 and other info nos generally dont work properly in some SCR areas.
