Hi All..

I just got a Transcend 500GB 2.5". Not even a month old. :S.
Connected it via my belkin powered usb hub. there are other drives also on it.
It was just fine. till today.

Send it to a friend via courier. he says not detected and making faint beep sounds.

Is the drive gone?. Google says so. :(.

I cannot be sure if beeps are made when it was with me. i kept this on a rack under the table. so not sure. i hear lot of beeps/whirrs and what nots. not sure whats what.:(.

Thank god it happened before he trusted me with his data. else it would have been a pickle.

Any help

AFAIK, there is no scope for any Portable HDD emanating Beeps. It is probably just the spinning sound that ur friend mistook for Beeps..... :P

Assuming that the drive is the Storejet 25M, my personal opinion is that the drives are built to last. I had one which had taken a fall from the desk & survived without any issues.

As it is a month old, I guess u'll have a bill. Get it RMAed. That's the best bet.

I know the drive can be rma'ed and all. but still the HDD is goner right. :S. Bought this specifically for data couriers.

^^ No re, its not the spinning, its constant Bip(not beep)...Bip....Bip....Bip and thats the only thing happening with the HDD,it won'teven get detected in Windows.Other USB pen drives and all are working with the same USB ports,no prob at all.

err...

false alarm... the HDD is working now.. :S....
But if it wasn't working at some point of time, u should still get it RMAed.... Coz if it fails once it is loaded with Data, u'll lose the HDD + the data on it..... :(
