My 160 GB Transcend StoreJet 2.5 external hdd has gone KAPUT..!! :(
when i connect it to my comp, there is a knocking sound coming frm it..
the data on the hdd isnt important to me.. just need to get it working..

PLZ HELP SOME1..!! any place that might get it running again??

how old is it? if it is warranty, give it for RMA.

if not, i dont think it is advisable to get it repaired. even if it can be repaired, it would cost a lot and getting a new hdd would be more logical. also, even after you do repair the hdd, there will always be a chance of going kaput again.

i u wud have pressed hdd on side while running, its possiblility that HDD's enclosure presurrise the spindle and its chances are that that the HDD outer layer must have frictioned the platters... happened with my friends hdd once :P

I was going to advise you to wrap it up in polythene and put it in a freezer for approx 5 to 10 minutes according to temprature of the freezer.(If you were asking to recover data from it) It worked for me 2 time until Now.

But as you dont need the Data.U want it to be working as usual it was.

So I m sorry I have no Idea.

One more thing comes to mind is just put in the freezer and take it out after 5-10 minutes and it will be working' Then just try to Low level format.May-be it works.
and yes dont advise me friends why didn't i tried on mine( I didn't cause it was under warranty I just saved my data and send it for replacement)

And a Disclamer as we see with experiment's I m not responsible for any mishap causing by my advice to you;your pc ;your hdd and everything else....

Yes me too 'd like to know why do the hdd's stop working suddenly with cliking noise.Even if there's no power surge etc.

My friend's transcend drive also is acting weird. Who handles the warranty of Transcend drives?
