TV and TataPlay Remote issue

In exchange of my old tatasky stb, I opted for a brand new Tataplay Binge android box last week for free. Setup & everything went smooth.
The visiting technician paired both the remotes of my Hisense Tv and Tataplay for basic functionality- On/off and volumes/mute.

But 3 days later or so my Hisense Tv was even able to change channels (via the number buttons/input) and browse across directions (left-right-up-down) for the STB.
Thus, I only had to use my TV remote to control both stb and tv. Only use stb remote to watch android apps on stb.

But yesterday, wife accidentally pressed some buttons on the stb and bang all the functionality is no more. Its back to basics- Only on/off and volumes/mute is working like before while not able to do anything more from my Tv remote. Wife couldn't recall which 2-3 keys she pressed together.

I tried every possible setting both on tv and tataplay, even changed hdmi port but to no vail. I really want the TV only control functionality back.

Was not able to find such YT videos as all videos are for controlling tv from stb remotes but I need the reverse as it was in my case.

Can someone help here who is already having an android tv plus new tataplay android stb?

off topic, just curious to know, dose Tataplay Binge android box work without any TATA plan , i mean, do we need to recharge any basic plan to use android apps, like youtube, netflix... etc

Binge pack containing apps is a seperate pack. Not mandate.

No but as he already wrote he has tried every possible setting already so it's surely not hdmi cec bruh.

Agree with asteroid, it must have been HDMI CEC. Check both TV and STB to see if CEC is turned on. In addition, make sure the port on which your STB is plugged in supports CEC. Not all ports on TVs do. Usually the one port sure to support CEC will be the one marked ARC.

If you're thinking of getting it as an Android box, based on reviews, it's not great at that. If you don't need cable, then a Fire Stick or an Mi TV Box will be a better choice.

Thanks, bought Fire Stick, installed Kodi + Jio TV... ! amazing experience !
Ah, didn't notice the post was 2 weeks old.
I disliked fire stick for the shitty home screen which practically only shows ads, with less than 10% space showing the apps I'm interested in. So I bought a Motorola streaming device during the sale. And my respect for Fire stick went up a lot after that. Here are the reasons:
  • The lack of a play/pause button in Google TV devices is so annoying. It's a media player, the button I need the most often is Play/pause
  • TV volume control is erratic on moto, some times it controlled TV volume, at others Android software volume. I cannot find a setting to define the behaviour. Fire stick always controls TV volume
  • Fire stick's remote has an IR blaster which can be fully configured, you can define multiple devices by selecting the brands. I switch on both my AVR (which is IR only) and TV with a single button press. Moto give a separte IR blaster, but there's absolutely no info on how to use it. There are no settings to configure it.
  • Custom home screens are disabled on Google TV as well. I thought this was the case only in Fire Stick
Overall, Fire stick is a far superior device which has actually been designed to be a TV device. Google TV is Android TV + ads where Android TV was a slimmed down phone OS with basic additions for TV. I mean, there are unlicensed devices on Amazon using Android's tablet OS on Android TV devices and the experience is not that much worse. Goes to show how little Google has actually worked on adapting it for a TV.

Does jio tv work on fire stick? Is it like you can watch channels for free?
yes... it will work..., you need to install KODI and the Jio TV add-on... you can watch any youtube tutorial video for it.. just search "Kodi + Jio TV on fire stick" even you can watch jio tv on computer..

look in your tv settings, she probably toggled the hdmi cec support off.

Before opening this thread, I had already validated CEC & all HDMI related settings and also the settings for turning off/on HDMI devices when either of the devices are powered.

-This is my self-researched technique-
After trying various settings and combo of switching on/off both devices, the below method worked.

Ensure Tataplay STB is turned off completely ensuring its not in standby mode.
Turn off the tv as well.
Power-off both the devices (wall power)

Power-on both the devices (wall power)
Turn on only the TV. After loading and when on home screen, wait for 2 mins or so.
STB will sense and get power-on signal from the TV and It should automatically wake-up/power-on (watch out for the stb red light to go white and tataplay logo lightens up)
Once stb is On, TV will change its input automatically to TV mode without requiring any manual intervention from tv remote.

**Now, Most imp Watch out for- the TV input should say Tata Sky Binge and not HDMI else the pairing hasn't happened and for this session one needs to operate only from stb remote before repeating the entire process.

Thats it! Control stb and tv both from TVs remote only.

The patience time is 2-5 mins depending how one needs to urgently switch on to stb mode manually. If there's no patience then this method isn't for such person.
The communication between tv and stb is to happen automatically & is very crucial and it depends on many factors given the androids fuzzy behavior of loading the apps to checking for updates etc.

may not be solution to ur pain point , but still trying -
I am using this universal remote from an year - https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08KTFDJTK/
configured TV mode to my TV, STB mode to my TATASKY HD STB box, DVD mode to my AVR. All working flawlessly from single remote.
I do have firestick, if remote is not around, will control it from Phone
I know about these 3rd party remotes but not interested in fatc not worthy at all spending a bomb on them even though it might be some alternative.

2-5mins of wait time is simply worth waiting for me unless I a despo watcher to instantly hook into hook into!
