Well, I've just bought a PS2 SCPH-90004, which is PAL, and when I connected it to my TV, it only shows a blue screen in the AV modes, even though the console is powered on.

I bought this from Palika, and I had it thoroughly checked before buying.

I've checked the video cable's connections, and they seem to be correct. My DVD player which is PAL/NTSC compatible, works fine with the same connections.

Now, is my TV unable to detect the PS2 because it could only be for the NTSC region ? My TV is 10 years old, it is a BPL 29", model no. NQR53QD3.

So, do I need to get a PAL to NTSC converter ? Or do I have a faulty video cable that needs to be replaced?

I'd be grateful if you can throw some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance,

Raghav.

In india TV broadcast is on PAL. Supposedly your TV is also a made in India.
I guess 10 year old models wont be having the dual PAL/NTSC support that you can see in most Korean TV's today. I guess you need to find out if the PS2 is actually PAL or NTSC.

Try and get the PS2 exchanged as PAL to NTSC signal convertion isnt really worth it.

The point is the PS2 should atleast show the boot up screen.It doesn't matter if it's PAL or NTSC as it would come in Black/White on boot if the TV system is not supported.Notice that he mentioned that it only shows up with a blue screen indicating that it's not even displaying the boot sequence.Like Quad Master said try it in another television to isolate the issue.

Dont scare me yaar. I am going to buy the same PS2 tomorrow (saturday).

BTW, i have a videocon Bazooka 25" TV have both NTSC and PAL support. I hope it works on this

@Ethan_Hunt

I will finally be going to Indraprasth to buy the PS2 9xxxxx version :)

Dude you'll be fine trust me.The above case is very rare & I don't think it's anything to do with his TV.Should be the cables most probably.

This can happen because of a faulty modchip too, i had the same problem with my ps2, after the repair guy removed the modchip tv screen came back to normal.

i have already goT one of the *not so original DVD* of NFS Underground for 50 bucks to be tested when i purchase the PS2 :)

Could be but remember he mentioned that he check it properly at the shop so I doubt it's the console as such.

@ethan_hunt

what all things shud i check while buying the console from Do-Buy in Indraprasth ? The rate he mentioned last week was 6800 bucks and memory card for 450 bucks.

A.)Test a few game DVD's out there.Make sure they load properly.Especially the ones which they provide as a complimentary copy.

B.)Check the top condition of the PS2 & make sure there are no scratches on the top black portion.

C.)If you getting the additional controller than check the R3's response & also the action buttons response.

D.)Get the guy's signature on each of the accessory that you buy.He had signed my console, memory card, DVD's & gave me a card with date of purchase, amount & his sign.This would be a proof of purchase.
