Hi ,
i wanted to know whether the below mentioned tv tuners are available in india ( if they are then plz mention the place to get them or the contact address of the sellers) and how much do they cost???

ATI tv wonder elite
Hauppauge PVR-150MCE
MSI 550 pro - E
Leadtek WinFast PVR2000(OEM)
Leadtek WinFast DTV2000 H

Also tell me which speaker is better for music, movies, games:-
Logitech z-2300 2.1 system or MX5021??? I didn't wanna start a new thread so i am asking this here.

depends what kind of music also u into. if you are into rock/metal etc i think you would prefer mx5021, other for regular hip hop etc etc the logitechs.

but i would suggest the mx5021 as i am currently using them. just heard those logitech couple of times.

I don't think any of those tuners are available in India. They'd cost a bomb even if they are (maybe 10-12K). Why exactly do u need hardware acceleration? Do you intend to run MCE?

Well money is not really an issue here and yes i need built in hardware encoding, 3D comb filter and i do intent to run MCE 2006.

I really hope they are available in india and hope somebody could tell me where to find!

The leadtek is dirt cheap if u can get it.Normally $30ish on the egg.I got it for all of $14.95 after a $20 MIR(why they offered a $20 MIR on a $29.95 product is anyone's guess).

Well pinnacle tuner cards have serious issues. Their quality though good isn't that great. The models available in india don't have built in hardware encoding.their after service support isn't great. They seldom update their drivers and even when they do , installing them results in bugs and other issues which they seldom rectify. Besides their compatiblity with MCE is always an issue.

It is almost impossible to get good tuners in india. somebody plz help.

Well bike i did check out that 5.1 forum you mentioned but it was more for a 5.1 system rather than a 2.1 system and logitech z2300 speakers weren't at all mentioned!!!!

Well undertaker , i live in india not america . So i can't buy from newegg!!!

Anyway how good are your leadtek tuner cards ??? How is the recorded picture quality.

i want to know if this is a good deal.
oe of my frnd have this tv tuney he bought it some years back for 7k.
he wants to sell it for 1.5k shud i buy it? :)
http://www.prolink-usa.com/english/product/mmpak/ppro.htm

thts the link do lemme know.
Joe.
Well x86, you could get a brand new PixelView PlayTVpro for about 1.4 k . So doesn't make much sense buying a second hand card from your friend right now at 1.5 k

Besides its not such a good quality card anyway. It lets you watch and record tv but don't expect miracles from this card. picture quality isn't that great--not for me anyways!!
Get a better card like compromate from local shops for around 2-2.5 k. Much
better quality!!!:)

Ya but MX5021 doesn't have that many great reviews by reviewers (cnet.com and others) On the other hand logitech z-2300 is highly rated by all major reviews!

I want hardware accleration an hd support.
the compromate has stuffs like those?
and in any way the ati's tv tuner available here? :O

From the Tuners.

The three most popular brands available here (Mumbai)

1. Pinnacle Series. the 50i, 110i and 100e.

2. The Aver series

3. some of the leadtek tuners

The Hauppauge PVR-150MCE also is available and i am using it in one of the systems. Experinmenting with the pinnacle 110i also, since i have a HTPC.

The 110i is infact more popular and run by one of the largest companies pinnacle systems. Check them out at pinnaclesys.com

OK. for recommendations. The pinnacle works seamlessly with its own software - showcenter and offers almost all features. There is mpeg 1 and 2 pack available for Windows MCE if you want to use it with MCE rather than its own software.

The 150MCE is only for MCE and will not work in most other software, so if you don't have MCE at the moment you will have problems, specially in the FM radio. Also the remote is the Microsoft Remote, so restricted to the Media center functions only. One big advantage it has is the hardware encoding.

But once though this was a big deal, today with clock speed being way beyond the requirement of standard encoding requirements, that may not be a limitation with cards which don't have that.

Ofcourse what you need to look out for is MPEG2 - since some cards only offer MPEG1, which you should avoid.

Costs. the MCE is around 5500 methinks, the pinnacle should be around 4500...but my prices should not be considered authoritative.

Hope that helps.

I dont know whether ati tuner cards are available here. That's what i am trying to find out! hope i find them!!!!

As far as the HD support is concerned , no compromate won't support it and neither will the PixelView PlayTVpro you are trying to buy.BTW, why do you want to have HDTV support ??? We don't have any HDTV in india.

As far as hardware acceleration is concerned , pixelview P7000 is available but it will cost you a lot more. Also the cards which i mentioned above-- all have hardware acceleration but i don't know whether they are available in india.

So MCE wont work say in linux or so? o rsay win2k3?
and by hardware accleration .. say a tv tuner dont have tht what are the exact drawbacks a nonhardware acclerated card has over a accelerated one?

Well a tv tuner with a built in hardware acc. doesn't use the power of cpu while recording and thus frees up your computer to do other things like playing games or surfing the net while recording. It allows you to continue to use your computer while recording. If you have dual core then that may not be a problem. But still some cards which don't have this functionality may experience recording problems like the recorded video will not be in sync with the audio.

About the HD support for play tv pro is concerned, well that's just marketing gimmicks. A card with 10 bits video decode won't give you HD quality!!! It simply can't.I don't think a pixel view pro tv tuner card even has a 3d comb filter or a 5 channel 2d comb filter let alone HD support!!!!

Even a card like ATI's tv wonder elite that has a 12 bits video decode won't give you anywhere near HD quality.
You need HD quality , then you have to get Ati's hdtv wonder elite !

In india if you want to experience HD then get DTH on a HDTV. That will be closer to HD experience!!!!
