I have seen many new people from Techenclave in twitter. Most of them I guess have newly joined, I suppose. Most of them are updating through web.
There are apps like Yahoo messenger or Gtalk, which when installed on Windows, you can easily check in your friends' tweets and replies and direct messages. Not that in web version it cannot be done, but these apps are quite user friendly for a beginner.
I personally use either a Twhirl or Twitterfox. But there are more:

Also, even @techenclave and @funenclave or any user can update their followers with their blog feeds using Twitterfeed. So I guess this could be a good source for TE to expand and get new users.
